There are so many variables that go into determining your goal weight.  No 2 people will have the same body type even if they are the same height and weight.  A lot of that has to do with muscle mass, bone structure, etc.
For some reason people who have been morbidly obese tend to look, and be, smaller then a person who has never had a weight problem.  I see a lot of people who weigh 150 or more and wear a size 6.  Someone who has never been overweight before might wear a size 8.  I heard it has to do with the bones getting heavier in order to bear the excess weight.
This is a good website to see how different people look at the same height and weight as you are and what your body may look like at goal weight.  http://www.mybodygallery.com/

That is good info.  What you said is so true.  I never thought about the bones being more dense to carry the weight.  That is very interesting.

Katie, I think you might want to think less about a goal weight, and just keep doing what you're donig until you either feel like you're where you should be, you like what you see, or your body levels out naturally.  There's lots of people here that have blown past their goal weights, and there's others who never get close to their goal weights... they are just random numbers in most cases and countless factors affect whether the goal can be reached or not.

Consider the rough start you had, you have done amazingly.  When the going got tough (and it was T-O-U-G-H there for a while, bigtime!), you soldiered on... and you got past it.  That in itself was a huge accomplishment... and you are still continuing to lose weight while you gain the skills necessary to maintain that loss.

Keep doing what you've been doing... only time will tell where your weight will end up.  As long as you've been working your plan, chances are you won't get TOO light for your height... your body will know where it wants to be.  I really thought I wanted to be 148, but my body has put on the breaks at 161 (at the lowest), and now I'm averaging 164 - 168.  I'm 5'9", so a little taller than you... I also have a very broad build and a large chest (even after the loss).  That all being said, perhaps it's quite possible that you can comfortably get into the 160's and maybe even the 150's...

Forgive me, now I'm just rambling... time for bed!  ;)

Your goal weight is a strictly personal option between you and your surgeon.  We all choose different goal weights for differing reasons.  The most import thing is health - physical, emotional and psychological.   I am 5'9" and my goal weight is 129, the lowest for my height.  Currently my weight fluctuates between 130 and 133.  I feel better than I have in years -  many, many years, actually.  I am small boned/framed.  You have to take everything into consideration.  There are those who weigh 20 to 30 pounds more than I, who are my height, but they look as small or smaller than I due to their bone structure.  Don't compare yourself to others because you have to consider their genetics, age, activity, lifestyle, gender, on and on and on.  I appreciate my surgeon so much.  He never discouraged me from my goal but monitors my progress.  Ideally I would like to weigh 5 pounds less than my goal in the event I have some sort of stubborn bounceback.  But I know I would then be considered underweight, and that would not be acceptable to him or my family.  Do what is right for you.  This topic seems to be a lightning rod for many.

I am 5'8" and set a goal of a size 10 initially, well I thought that would get me around 150lbs.  Well, now I have hit 150lbs and wear a size 6 but now that is still not good enough.  Listen to your body, it will tell you when you have reached the optimum weight.  I stopped losing about 6 months after my surgery, I continue to focus on my diet and work out usually 6 times per week.  I am finding that I am starting to put on weight, can fluctuate up to 158lbs but my trainer sees a lot more muscle building but I am remaining a size 6.  Good luck.

Ok you look and are doin amazing.  Often our bodies decide what our goal weight should be and it may or may not go with what we want.  That being said don't focus on the BMI.  BMI actually for the most part is a load of crap, it is perfectly possible to be healthy and not have a normal BMI it is also possible to have a normal BMI and not be healthy, yes skinny fat people.

Focus on your health and things like your body fat %.  This is what is going to keep you looking the way you want to look and dressing in the clothes you want to wear.

You have done and awesome job keep it up!
