D-3 question

I just found a chewy D3 vit at GNC. I believe this is the right kind to take but I could be wrong so just checking. Do I have to worry about taking it with anything else or is it ok to mix with my other vits? I plan on taking 4 of these as my calcium also has some d3 in it but I was worried it wasnt enough.

I can't tell if these are dry D3 or not.  I'm thinking they may be the oil miscible stuff because the ingredients include a couple different types of oil.  They sound yummy, though.

As far as what to take it with, you can take D3 with any of your other vitamins or by itself, whatever works best for you.

SO if they are the oil then I should not take them? I wont absorb them? They do taste yummy like a tootsie roll.

Probably you would absorb some but not all and it's hard to say how much.  I'm not sure these are the oil miscible D3 though.  I just can't tell from the label.

I'll tell you who I ask when I have vitamin stuff I can't figure out.  Michelle AKA vitalady.  I suggest shooting her an email.

It isn't the factor of whether these are absorbable based on the amount of oil  in them, it is the fact that they arent' nearly enough vitamin D for any postop patient = probably most people in the general population either.  75% of the population are vitamin D deficient and dont even know it and a higher percentage of postops are.  We need mega doses of dry D3 and taking 1000 units per day will do nothing for us other than lead to osteoporosis.

You need to take a minimum of 10,000 units per day and most need alot more than that.  You need to know your vitamin D level along with your calcium and PTH levels to really know the status of your bones to know how much D you really need.

You can get dry D3 from vitalady.com either 5,000 units or 50,000 units

Most post ops have low D issues. I went through this 5 years ago.  Get some regular dry D3 from Vitalady. You probably won't absorb the D as well as regular D3 either.  Getting your D levels up to the highly desirable 80-90 lab results is difficult without using higher dosages for most RNY post ops.  Not every patient is identical, so your exact body's needs for mainting this level will vary.  I took 4 of the 50K IU dry D3 per week for over 2 years. Labs then showed a 65, not quite up to the "target range".  I've been taking one of these D3 daily for almost a year, and will adjust according to my labs next month.  Target range noted on D3 will assure that you're abosrbing your calcium citrate well.  Just inserting my opinion here; I have some doubts as to the oils affecting your absorption of D3, as they are listed  low on the ingredient list so would be more minimally present. What is likely making it a chewy texture is the corn syrup - same stuff used in making carmels and rolled fondant.
