Having a hard time. I want to eat for comfort!
What else comforts you? This may sound goofy, but I've actually made a list before so I could refer to it when I really needed comfort. When I'm really stressed out, it can be hard to think of anything else to do. Having a list to go to helps me.
I'm just throwing some ideas out there. Can you plan to spend extra time with your uncle? Is there something special you could do for him? I'm not sure what. I crochet, and I think in your position I would crochet him a blanket in his favorite colors in the softest yarn I could buy. But it could be anything. Maybe you could make a tape of songs that comfort you. And you could make a copy of it to give to your uncle, if you wanted. Do you keep a journal? Maybe journaling about the memories of your father would help. Do you scrapbook? You could make a scrapbook about your uncle. Maybe one about your dad, too. Maybe you could make one about your uncle to give to your aunt or cousins.
some things that comfort me are spending time with my cats, reading good books, taking long bubble baths, drinking hot herbal tea, walking in the woods.
I'm really sorry you're having to deal with this.

Thank you guys so much for your kind words. I am going to try so hard not to eat for comfort. I think I am going to bring up my exercise and journaling sounds like a really good idea. The anniversary of my dad's death is this week and that is a really hard day for me. But I am going to keep strong and remember why I had this surgery.
My uncle is so proud of me for the weight loss. He is very overweight and I think if his health were different he might of had the surgery. I am going to keep that in mind when I am struggling.

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle & it does make sense that it'****ting you particularly hard at this time - anniversary reactions can really test your strength. Others have given you some great advice here; use it!! It's not about the food itself, it's what you're seeking in the desire to have comfort. Write, talk, hug..... And maybe think again about getting back into therapy. Some things are too big to do on your own.
