I am on soft foods and need some ideas to use or mix with cottage cheese.  How do you eat your cottage cheese?

salsa and melted cheese..refried beans and cottage cheese and melted cheese, heated up..sugar free preserves and cottage cheese..

Refried beans come in instant variety..you can find it in the bulk section of Winco or in boxes sometimes..I think the brand is Santa Fe..that way you can make up a tablespoon of it at a time and not have to open a whole can..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

THanks for the replies.  I have been afraid to try any kind of fruit yet.  I'm so scared that it will be to sweet and I will dump.  I used to love cottage cheese with pineapples or peaches but i wouldn't even know what to look for when buying canned fruit now.  Any suggestions?

My surgery was 16 August and I am on soft foods now.  I notice lots of people who had surgery the same week as me are eating things like toast, fruit, salsa, chips!  I kow that different doctors have different time frames for each phase.  SO far I have been eating LOTS of tuna, salmon, cottage cheese, string cheese (i think i'm addicted to these!), mashed potatoes, refried beans.  But that is about the extent of what i have been eating as far as foods go.  So far I have had no problems with anything but I wonder how long it willbe before I can expand my menu?  Any ideas?  When did you get the clearance to eat "normal" foods?

I'm on soft foods too...but they way my doc does soft foods is that you can blend/puree it OR it has to be soft enough for you to chew it to apple sauce consistency.  Fruit and veggies are ok as long as they are cooked soft and either blended or I have to chew them really well.  No chips, no salsa (tomato seeds) and I personally try not to do mashed potatoes because of the starches, but I LOVE mashed cauliflower with butter buds instead!  I've been doing tuna and salmon too, but last night I had some Mahi Mahi which was sooo good!

If you do canned fruit, make sure its in fruit juice, not syrup.  And my NUT suggested that you rinse it after draining and not consume the juice.  Make sure that the canned fruit doesn't contain any additional sugar...that's what might make you dump.  Fruit has natural sugar (frutose) but most people don't dump off of that (at least I don't).  I actually perfer the pureed baby food fruits (stage 2 or 3) because its less prep work.  I know the Gerber fruit doesn't have any added sugar, its just the blended up fruit and a bit of water.  If you get the ones in the plastic containers...its less than a dollar for 2...and each container is about 2 servings.

i've seen everyone talk about refired beans but I would want salsa with them so I haven't eatten them yet.  Do you do sour cream with them or just cheese and cottage cheese?

I've been buying the no sugar added canned fruit (it's sweetened with splenda).
