they operate on our tummies...
I have been in counseling for several years and never could have had this surgery without it. I used food as reward, punishment, consolation, etc. It is not as much of a problem these days, but I still have to be aware and watch out for it. Right now, if I have the 'need' to punish I have an agreement with my counselor to email him and wait for his response first - that not only delays the urges, but holds me accountable, because I do not lie to him ever.
For the "reward" I am finding new things that I enjoy that I can get the same pleasure from, but without the calories. And I can't WAIT to buy a bike!
The consolation/ comfort is a little trickier for me - it is just sheer stubborness at this point. Ex: today we had to take my SMO, wheelchair bound mom to the ER because she fell yesterday and today couldn't stand. I was stressed because she can't have any surgery, etc. Ended up they said she basically has no knee joints because of all the arthritis, so they gave her injections and pain/anti-inflammatory and sent us home. All the way home I wanted nothing more than to go to the drivethru at McD's....
I didn't, and when I got home it was time to eat so I fixed some tuna and enjoyed it, but I know for sure where I need to work on mentally next.
