What's your goal?
I think sometimes we get too hung up on the numbers. My goal weight was 140. But why did I want to weigh 140? Was it just so I could enjoy seeing those numbers on the scale? Well, no. It was so I could look relatively "normal," buy clothes in regular stores, walk up stairs without getting out of breath, not feel embarrassed eating in front of other people because I ate so much, bend over to tie my shoes without difficulty, etc. Those are the things that are really important to me, not the numbers on the scale.
Yes, sometimes it's easy to focus on the numbers and forget about what really matters. But then we need to refocus ourselves. What if the numbers on my scale never got below 150 but I could still do all those things that I wanted to do? Would it matter that I didn't meet my weight goal?
Well, I'll be honest. I would feel bad about not meeting that number goal. I'd feel at least a little disappointment in myself. But I think the other things are the things are are really important.
I've met those goals I mentioned above, but it's good to always have a goal, right?
So here are some current goals of mine:
- Eat fewer processed foods, make more food "from scratch"
- Find more vegan sources of protien and begin including them in my diet, while reducing dairy products in my diet
- Learn more about the difference between simple carbs and complex carbs and decide how much of each I think should be in my diet
- Work on preventing drops in my blood sugar by paying more attention to the balance of protein and carbs in each meal and snack
- Figure out a way to be more active. I know I'm not gonna do some kind of formal exercise program but I also know I need to spend less time on my couch.
So. What are your goals? What things are really important to you, regardless of the number on the scale?

I want to find new things to eat weekly, so I don't get bored. I really can't wait till I can eat more.
I am not worried about the numbers on the scale. I do not own a scale and do not plan on owning one. I will get weighed monthly for now at the docs and that is what I will go by.
I want to get in my protein, fluids and vits and get healthier. I would love ro start to run, not fast, but run, for me. First I need to get off the sofa and get movin!
Granted, I know the surgery doesn't get me to those- my choices have a greater say in that, I gotta do the work - but surgery's helping me have a slight edge.....

I want to : go hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, camping in the mountains, fly to yellowstone, do search and rescue with my horse (and maybe a dog coming soon).... I want to sit in an chair with arms without pain, sit in a booth without fear, walk through a crowded room without feeling like I take up all the space. I want to do a 5k... RUN a 5k ... and be able to wear the Tshirt they give away. I want to ride waterslides, rollercoasters and bicycles.
I want to take healthy lifestyle changes and make them healthy lifestyle habits.
That's the short list.

I went into surgery and still have these goals because the medical issues I have may not go away with surgery (although I was diagnosed as Type II Diabetic 2 weeks before surgery and at two weeks post op it was gone!):
- Be able to find healthy alternatives to satisfy my cravings, like substitutes for chips, bread and carbs
- Be able to feel better about myself overall and not wonder what people are thinking of me
- Be able to keep up with my healthier friends
- Buy clothes anywhere I go!
- Spend less money on food (that probably will not happen though as I am trying to eat more organic, LOL)
- Be more physically active and not see exercise as a chore
- Fly on an airplane without the fear of being asked to buy another seat or be an "annoyance" to the person sitting next to me (luckily neither has ever happened)
