Magnesium Citrate with Sodium Saccharin = dumping
I was/am constipated and so I drank about 4 oz of CVS Brand Magnesium Citrate Cherry Flavor -- A Pasturized Sparkling Saline Laxitive. I used to take this as a constipation remedy before surgery.
It doesn't list sugar as an active or inactive ingredient. It does have the sweetner "Sodium Saccharin".
I immediately had the worst dumping syndrome that I have had since a week after surgery (I am 6.5 months out now). I was so sick I wanted to die. Besides the terrible stomach cramps and all over body sweating I was actually in so much pain I was moaning. I tried to throw up but I couldn't.
All I could do is lie down and pray for it to pass. I felt a little better within 15 minutes and much better within an hour. Still, the episode wiped me out and I wasn't able to do much the rest of the day.
I thought I was ok with this medicine because there is no sugar listed as an ingredient, but that sodium saccharin nearly killed me.
And, no it didn't help the constapation either.
I just wanted to share so I could prevent other people from pain like that.
