So I was told by my nut that I didnt really have to concern myself with carbs post op.. having been on atkins leading up to WLS I was on a strict under 30 carb diet.  that being said I still dont eat bread or pastas or big carb no-no's. but I am still managing to eat on average 70g of carbs a day.. I know that some of that comes from the protien bars but is that too much?? To me it seems like alot!

I don't think that is much at all. I try to keep under 80 carbs per day and make sure most of them are the right carbs. For Atkins it may be, but you can easily consume hundreds of carbs a day if you aren't careful.

Hi. I'm almost 4 months out, and my dietician said to up my complex carbs to 100g per day - I've done that and am losing much more quickly :) I upped my calories too from 700-800 to 900-1000 and that's made a huge difference for me.

Good luck! :)

Its funny to me how different each doc and program is. When I was 4 months out I was on 400 calories per day, and under 45 gms of carbs daily. I didn't get to 800 calories till 8 months out and my doc has us work up to 1000-1200 per day at one year out and thereafter. I've stuck around that number since hitting goal at about 11 months out. I still do somewhere around 1200 calories per day now to maintain.

If it isn't having an adverse affect on the scale then don't worry about it.  Stick with complex carbs though.

For myself I don't worry about how many carbs I get as much as what kind of carbs.  I don't worry about the carbs I get from dairy, fruits and vegetables but I avoid all refined carbs such as sugar and processed foods.  I probably get in at least 100 grams a day, less if you subtract the fiber grams.

My doc told me to keep carbs under 45 gms per day post op. He did stress "good carbs" so I try to stick to that number even now. I do know carbs seem to be what puts the weight on us faster than anything. Most of my post op friends struggling with regain contribute it to carbs and too many in their daily diet. I'd say do as little as you can now, then you don't have to worry about the amounts later on.

I myself struggle with the carbs. The carbs add up very quickly without eating processed foods. I use milk in my protein drink, i eat vegies, fruit and on occasion I will have a piece of bread that is whole grain, or a whole grain torilla that nets carbs at 8. The bread has only been 3 times since surgery. What I am trying to say is , I do not know how those that get 45 and under are doing it.
Wish you the best, I think you are doing great. Some of us are slow losers. Me I am a Type 1 diabetic on insulin and insulin makes you fat. So me, I struggle alot.

Like everyone says all  Nuts and docs do it differently.  I know that at 2 months out, I am not allowed any form of complex carbs until at least 7 months out and even then in small quantities.  They say that complex carbs increase cravings for more complex carbs and also stimulates hunger more.  Since complex carbs are one of the reason a lot of us were overweight my feeling  is why tempt fate again.  Anyway, right now I am below 40g carbs a day and frequently below 30.  Actually there are a lot of WLS articles that say you want to be in and stay in ketosis which indicates that your body is burning its own fat for fuel (assuming you're getting the right amount of protein).  You will only have that advantage for about 4 months from what I've read.  The more active you are, the higher carbs you can have, but if you aren't exercising or doing a lot, your carbs should be a lot lower than a person who exercises frequently, etc.
