Yes, fistulas do show up on CT scans and if you were told about it a year ago and you haven't had any really serious complications, then it is most probably healed by now.

Who told you it was a fistula? gastro doctor or your surgeon? I would ask for a CT scan to make sure it isn't still there but I am sure it isn't serious or you would be in tons of pain and have really serious complications depending on which organs are involved. As far as the staple, I am not sure why they didnt' do that during the endoscopy?

As far as the fistula itself, they dont' remove them - they sew them shut. It is an abnormal connection between 2 organs - like a tunnel.

good luck and hope all goes well.

Thank you all for all your help and info--i really appreciate it so much. I am gonna ask for a CT scan.. And I will see what happens..I was told by the Gastro doc who did the endoscope and then the Weight Loss Gastro surgeon that is was a Fistula..If they just would have explained to me that it is small and minor and it may go away--it would have eased me alot--But they were avoiding my direct questions and rounding about them--so it made me think thet it was bad and they just did not want to tell me anything becausse these surgwons are all so afraid of law suits--I just want to hear the whole truth and nothing but.. If this Fistula is gone I will be so happy--even if they can seal it up or something without having major surgery--as I have had my share of surgeries..And I have no idea why the Gastrointer doc who did the Endo did not take care of the staple--He just told me that I had to follow up with The GI Nutrition People and they could not give me answers--Thats why I got so mad and went to see the actual surgeon who is 2 hours away from us--I got the run around I feel from him also.. I have so much going on right now that my Anxiety/Depression cannot handle things Somwtimes I just want to crawl under a Rock and hide.I do not believe in HororScopes--but I am a Crab symbol and we tend as they say to like to hide in our shells and that is true of me.. God Bless you all and I will let u know what happens..

I would also think the same test we did the day after surgery --the swallow study could easily be done to show if food and or liquids are going from your pouch into your remenent stomach. If your surgeon won't give you clear answers find a gastro enterologist to do the tests. And NO a fistula in your stomach will NOT cause bleeding in your stools--bleeding that occurs that high up doesn't appear as blood in your stools it appears like coffee grounds. If you are seeing blood it has to be the rectal area.
