Addiction Transfer....
Good luck and this sounds so clique but "if i can do it so can you"...lol
I also get and utilize whatever support I can- so therapy is a great idea. I would suggest finding a therapist familiar with the philosophy of addiction treatment plus eating disorders. Support groups are also great.
Good for you for reaching out!

"Support fosters your growth. If you are getting enough of the right support, you will experience a major transformation in yourself. You will discover a sense of empowerment and peace you have never before experienced. You will come to believe you can overcome your challenges and find some joy in this world." Katie Jay

I got an alcohol addiction for about nine or ten months. Then the lord healed me and after that I started going to a group called new beginnings at my church for anyone with any addictions. I am about to graduate on the 2nd and I am going to end up being a co leader in a group. It is so easy because it doesnt take much after having surgery to get you buzzed or drunk.
There are quite a few food addictions. Sugar is a big one. Sugar is extremely addictive. I didn't even realize it was until my ex=husband quit eating sugar and went through what alcoholics do..the D-T's..shaking, sweating, gut wrenching pains..He's back to it now and puts 27 packets of splenda in his iced tea..You can't even visualize an addiction until you see someone putting 27 packets in a 16 oz Ice tea..then you KNOW what you're seeing..
According to the Food Addicts group that meets here locally, sugar addiction is the major cause of alcohol addiction..And white carbs like bread will cause your sugar to rise quickly but drop quickly too..Reactive Hypoglycemia..
Just because we kick the food/sugar/white carbs habit, doesn't mean it's all over and the war is won..If that was the case they wouldnt' call alcoholics "recovering"..
Some people switch to alcohol, some to shopping, some to sex..some back to sugar and white carbs..and the whole world wonders why WLS isn't always successful..it's because they operate on our middles and not our brains..
