My one year wedding anniversary is September 4th. We were planning on going to this amazing art museum in Baltimore and then melting pot but unfortunately we can't afford to go out or spend money this year. Does anyone have any cheap or free ideas for what to do? We might make a nice dinner at home or find a lake to go to for the day. If you have any romantic recipes or romantic dessert recipes let me know of that too!

I have an awesome recipe for shrimp scampi if you would like it. We do make some noodles with it, but not sure if you have introduced pasta into your diet yet. You could always cook a romantic dinner at home and then rent a movie. Also, Baltimore would be great to just go and walk around in the evening. We love walking around the Harbor and checking out the sites. Also check out the local calendars for the Baltimore area to see if there are any events that are free or low cost to do. You are not that far from Frederick and I know that this coming weekend they will have stuff going on in downtown Frederick. You could find a cheap place to eat downtown and then enjoy the festivities and walk around downtown. I know they have a link for the upcoming events. Let me know if you want any info, I think we might be hitting Frederick this weekend. I can give you some good reasonable places to eat if you are interested. I hope you find something romantic and fun to do.

I don't have dinner or activity ideas, but the traditional one year gift is paper....you could look up how to do orgami and make something or copy a poem or make a card for your husband to go along with dinner and whatever else you plan. Happy early anniversary!!!

How about a picnic at the lake?  My husband and I used to do it all the time.  We would pack a basket with a blanket, cheese, and fruit.  If you can handle carbonation you could drink a little sparkling apple juice in a wine glass.  If not just about anything is romantic in a wine glass.  Then set the stage at home with candles, rose petals, massage oil etc.  You could even rent a romantic movie.

Are there any outdoor concerts or plays going on?  That can also be romantic.  We love packing a picnic and going to Shakespeare in the park.  It can be fun to cuddle up under the stars.

One year I bought a pretty jar and filled it with 365  reasons why I loved him.
Buy a lottery ticket and write a note that says you won the lottery when you met him.
Make him a memory box.  Fill it with special mementos to remind you of the past year together or of when you were dating.
Create a scavenger hunt for when he comes home from work.  At the end will be you in the bedroom.
Leave a love note on his windshield while he is at work.  Or a big bag of Hershey kisses in his car if it isn't too hot.  (tell him he has to keep it at work.  They are so he will remember your kisses while you are apart.) Or surprise him at work with lunch.

One of the most romantic things I have ever seen was a young man(20's) walking down the side of the rode picking wildflowers. It was early in the morning.  Maybe it was my imagination in overdrive, but  I think he was surprising his lover with flowers after a special night.

Remember it is not about the money but the love you two share.  These experiences are what you will remember.  It is also what will make you grow closer as a couple.
