Thank you diva! You inspired me to write a blog post about emergency rations. I actually wrote this the year before last for a blizzard but never ended up posting it so I dusted it off. Here are a few suggestions for emergency rations that are WLS friendly.

Please share yours on the blog if you have any and please re-share this post as widely as you can. I want to make sure folks know some options.

Thanks and here's the post.

Also don't forget protein bars - - don't need any electricity for them! If one is dealing with complete power outages, sometimes even the non-perishable meats can feel unappetizing due to sitting in a hot house for days......
Having survived many hurricane seasons in Florida, here's some general tips:
- baby wipes. Your water may be running but your AC won't.
- dry shampoo. It's not fun to wash your hair without a functioning ho****er tank
- Water. Lots of it. More than you think you need. Put the bottles in your freezer while the power's still on so that you can have cooler water when the power's out.
- move anything outdoors that could possibly become projectile to safer locations
- park your cars away from trees or indoors if possible

These may sound like "big duh" but for those in the NE, we may not realize some essential steps for making this storm less of a PITA.

Hey girl!

I removed the moderation on posts so that folks can share tips on the blog comments. These are really great. Would you mind sharing them there?

They aren't bad but the calories and fat add up quickly. I usually do 100 calorie packs of nuts which don't really fill me up (the Wonder Pouch!) but let me have my nuts. :)

Thanks Nik for the great ideas. I live on the Texas Gulf coast and went through Hurricane Ike but lost everything that I owned. At the time I had not had WLS, of course, but hadn't thought about the issues that I might face during this Hurricane Season as a RNY girl. We could get hit with a storm at any time so I need to be prepared to take care of me. I have plans in place to take care of my family, my dogs, my property but I did not have a plan in place to take care of my WLS needs. Now, thanks to you, I do.

 Nik:

I can't believe you left off peanut butter!  Also, maybe some high protein bread/crackers for it.
I have eaten refried beans cold too if I have too.  Just a thought.
