increased sensitivity to sugar?
Hi Kelly!
I have noticed the further out I get that things that normally would not bother me later in the day might bother me earlier on. Weird huh? As the one poster mentioned, maybe try the protein bar again, later in the day and see what happens.
Or, you may have gotten a bad protein bar. Happens sometimes.
But yeah, I notice I really need to keep my breakfast under 10grams of sugar total (especially before a big workout) or I'll get shakey or not feel right... By the end of teh day, there is virtually nothing I can't eat. Weird how our pouches/bodies work sometimes!
(((good luck))))
Warmly,
Jackie

i'm nowhere near as far out as you are, but right out i dumped really easily (like on pretty much any sugar at all) that only lasted about a month. then up until a few weeks ago i experienced no problems at all (except on m&ms i got from my brother's engagement party i'm guessing it was the coating on them and all the other crap i had eaten that night). now all of a sudden i'm dumping fairly easily, but randomly. i could eat something and be totally fine, have the same thing the next day and dump from it (never major, just some sweating and dizziness). i just wish i could find some consistency so i knew what to avoid!
I've had to watch protein shakes and protein bars lately. I find both make me nauseated occasionally. The Oh Yeah bars and shakes are now on my DO NOT BUY list.
I'm one of the 70% that don't dump per sey, but I do have a limit I have to watch to avoid nausea.

I'm 29 months post RNY. I was a dumper early on and have kept sugar to 9gm or less per serving. I don't know if I still dump, because I keep sugar to that limit.
I have developed RH in the last 6 months - SO now I eat protein + something every 3-4 hours. I can eat some sugar (usually about 1/5 of a Cliff Energy bar with baby bel cheese or a boiled egg). Too much sugar for me to eat more than small amount. I seem to be keeping sugar pretty level with eating every 3-4 hours. My sugars still run in the 70-80's - 2 hours post a meal, but I feel OK.
I was out of town for funeral yesterday and we stopped at a Steak House for dinner. I ordered ground sirloin, steamed spinach and baked sweet potato with butter & cinnamon (no sugar) and I didn't eat any bread. It looked and tasted wonderful. I gave 1/2 the ground steak to hubby and could only eat half of what I kept - couldn't get down much of my veggies - and they were so good. I WAS FRUSTRATED! It was so good and I couldn't eat much. Pouch works - happy with that.
It's a crap shoot - I never really know how a day will go. Nausea sometimes, foamies sometimes, low blood sugar sometimes, hungry sometimes, gassy sometimes - One never knows!

Hi Kelly,
I was eating the same protein bar practically every day for months (needed to get in 20+ grams of whey protein/day per my doc since I wasn't absorbing it from food well enough, and I either had a shake or Pure protein bar). Then suddenly, I started dumping on that bar. Even one bite would make me quesy. This was around 14-15 months out. Haven't tried it again since.

At 4 years out (today, in fact!), I am much less sensitive to sugar than I was during the first year.
I have only dumped three times (but have also had some additional episodes of shakiness and queasiness... but not full blown dumping), and most of the time it takes a lot of sugar to cause me to feel poorly. I have noticed, however, that HOW much sugar I can tolerate really does vary from one day to another. I can eat a scoop of ice cream, for example, and not have any reaction at all on one day but then feel a little queasy after eating the same amount of the same ice cream on another day. I have wondered if it may have to do with whether or not I have any food in my system (or what kind of food I had at my last meal).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Now that I think about it, it does seem like the times lately when the sugar has bothered me have been when I eat for the first time in the day. I think I'm gonna cut back on the sugar altogether but when I do eat something with some sugar, only do it later in the day. I went to Vitamin Shoppe today because I had a coupon and bought a bunch of different protein bars to try. Ones with just two or three grams of sugar.

Kelly,
I told you this on a message but LOL here goes. I thought I was dumping I felt light headed and nauseated and sweating from head to toe..not hungry ..it turned out to be low blood sugar...reactive from eating a bit too much carb. I really don't eat much sugar. I got it once from eating about 15 triscuits and once from raisins. I just know now I can eat a bit but no more. Which is better for me for sure. Patty
