my RNY surgeon has now agreed to do an exploratory lap surgery...
I saw my original RNY surgeon for my 4-year follow-up on Tuesday and as part of the conversation I confirmed that I had an appt on the 6th with the top bariatric surgery practice in town (mine is probably #2) because the pain has continued to increase in frequency and just "living with it" is not an option (and that I am out of sick/vacation time at work). She said she understood and was not offended and that she did not realize that the pain was continuing to become more frequent. (Of course not... because I didn't bother to tell her since she made it clear a number of months ago that she would not do surgery for what was almost certainly adhesions.)
This morning, she called me at home. She said she had been thinking about me since I was in on Tuesday and that she was concerned that the frequency of the episodes is increasing (and that just the presence of scar tissue should not cause escalating issues). She said that her feelings would not be hurt if I wanted to keep my appt with the other surgeon, but that she would be willing to go in and do an exploratory laparoscopy to see what she could find if I wanted her to do that (and that she can probably get me on the surgery schedule next week).
There are a number of things that I have to consider that I won't go into here, but since there is no guarantee of what the other RNY surgeon will say (he might not want to do surgery, either)... and since the financial aspects of going to the Cleveland Clinic are problematic right now... and since I am having moderate pain again today... I think I am going to have her do it.
If I want her to do it, I need to go in and sign some paperwork tomorrow morning and have them get me set up for the pre-op testing, especially if she has an opening on Tuesday's surgery schedule!
