Going back to a liquid diet?

I feel like I have let a lot of things back into my life that I really shouldn't have. And now that I broke the barrier I just want more. I am eating too many carbs and making too many exceptions. I brought my struggle up in support group tonight and a bunch of people suggested I go back on the liquid diet. They said that will probably help with cravings and one person said when they did it it even felt like it made their stomach smaller. I am sceptically of this. What does everyone think? Could going back to only protein shakes help me? For a week or two?

My guess is that it won't shrink your pouch but emotionally "reboot" your cravings and get you back on track again.  I don't know if this is true, but it sounds like a possibility.  However, don't set yourself up for failure, if you think that it is too hard, and then you fail....that could be very dispiriting. Please be kind to yourseld.   Honestly, I am so early out  but it sounds like something that I would do.......

I'm doing the same thing....too much grazing....too many carbs.  I'm really disgusted with myself.  If you decide to go back to liquids I'll do it with you! I need to re-train myself before it's too late.

I don't think it would  hurt you but I don't think it's necessary, either.  I think if you stay away from ALL starchy foods (bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, crackers, etc) for a couple weeks, the craving for carbs will decrease a lot.  Try increasing your protein at the same time.

Years ago, when I did Atkins, I remember that it took 3 days to decarb my body and by the 5th day I was without the cravings. I agree with Kelly, go back to a strict plan and commit to working through the cravings for a week or two, and your body will reset.

From a psychological stanbdpoint, I recommend NOT going back to liquids. Go back to protein, protein, protein and water, water, water... and measure your portions.

Going back to liquids is dieting, and dieting failed every single one of us in the past.  Going back to liquids will only reinforce the old diet/deprivation/craving cycle that kept us obese for years. It will likely set you up for having to go back to liquids every time you find youself gaining weight or not having as much control over your eating for the rest of your life.

Going back to protein and very limited carbs (usually dairy carbs only since dairy also has protein), on the other hand, will reinforce the healthy eating habits that you will need for the rest of your life in order to finish losing the weight AND to maintain your loss.

It is just my opinion, but it is based on what I have seen work (or fail) both for myself and for my clients who have weight issues.

I want to put a plug in for exercise as well as increasing your protein along with cutting out the carbs- after forgiving yourself.

We all have to get up again and again and again and again. One day, one moment, at a time. Unfortunately the surgery doesn't operate on our brains. Now begins the hard work, and you can do it!!!

I agree with what Kelly said.  It won't hurt to go back on shakes in that it will give you a sense of control and maybe allow yourself to reset and help you detox.  But you need to eliminate the white stuff.  Some people don't have issues with carbs and carb cravings; I wish I was one of them.  Once you detox, it will be much easier to make healthy choices.
