Random Poll o' the Week: The Plague...

Carol, it’s funny you should mention the movies. I learned really early on that if I am completely full, stuff like that (popcorn smell, etc.) does not bother me. So I’d make a mega protein shake (45+g protein) before going to the movies. All was well. That’s just how my warped brain works, though.

I avoid: buffets and leftovers - both tend to make me I think it's the bacteria (or the dead skin cells LOL)

I also avoid ice cream , fried foods chewy meats and refined carbs (cakes, bread etc) - if I find GOOD bread however (artisan European type) then I will enjoy a doorstep with good butter!

I love a bit of Board drama, but hate sanctimony - you know, those know-it-alls *****ally don't!!! Your journey is just that - YOUR journey!!! I am happy sharing mine and quite honestly enjoy ******g off some of the old biddies on here!! I LOVE hearing about other people's journeys but I don't like preachers who believe theirs is the only way!!!! I would always recommend that newbies read experiences, ask for advice and then take what they want and leave the rest. I avoided this and the Main Board for years because all the eye rolling gave me a headache - now I just try and avoid those posts!

I am English and my family all still live in England - just me and my children here - so I do manage to avoid most of the family drama but have to make sure I go back every year or so to check in, sort out whatever the current arguements are and then check out ... bliss! Having been away for 12 years now I can't imagine being in the middle of all that ALL the time ...

Let me be frank here, I avoid other people's bullsh*t. This is MY time. I need to focus on myself. I don't care about YOUR drama, I don't want to be involved in YOUR drama, so just move along. I am so moody that sometimes I won't hold my tongue. I'm talking about the people who create drama. Now if a friend has a problem that's different. I am always there for them in that way.

I also avoid my neighbor. She was my bff for 7yrs. I disagreed with her on something silly and she fliped out and deleted me from facebook. Now, If I stopped talking to everyone I had a disagreement with, I wouldn't be talking to anyone. LOL When you are GROWN, disagreements happen all the time. You don't always have to agree with someone. I feel that if she could stop talking to me over sometime so silly, she didn't value our friendship. I don't trust very many people and she was one of 4 that I trusted and come to find out she betrayed me in a way that just rocks me to my core (whole nother story there. LOL So I avoid her b/c there are many things I would like to say to her, but I'm not wasting my breath.

I'm so new pre-op that I don't feel like I can weigh in of the food part, b/c I avoid a lot of foods, but that won't probably be the case a year from now.

I sat here thinking and I could not think of one thing that I avoid like the plague. Hmm.

Now, whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen.

I avoid my ex husband and his parents.
Sugar and wheat, bread and pasta.
I still go to buffets because my daughter and boyfriend like them but it's not my first choice.  I do like the variety, though.
I hate drama but it is hard to avoid with teens.
Unplanned eating, eating while cooking.  I used to eat a whole meal while preparing it.  I avoid "nibbling".  If I am going to have something I have it.
My sister and brother.  Now that my parents are gone I don't see why I have to interact with them unless it is absolutely necessary.  Same with my cousins.
My middle daughter's father.  After I moved I changed my phone number.  My daughter is almost 20 now and it is up to her if she wants to have a relationship with him.  Every time he would call all he would do is talk about all his problems and himself mainly.  My daughter has the same problem and doesn't talk to him often, either.  She also got a new phone and I don't think she has given him her new number.
Some old friends from the past, not all, just the toxic ones.
Some people on the board who can be, well, harsh and judgmental.  I guess I sound judgmental by saying that.
Any people, places or things that are negative I avoid as much as I can.  Especially people that are overly critical all the time.  We all have our moments but if it is all the time I stay away.
People who are always telling you what you should do, who feel that their way is the only way and aren't open minded.
Mean people.
Heights and small, enclosed places.  There is a sky tram at my medical center and you couldn't pay me enough to get on it.
Sky diving and other "extreme" type activities.  If I want my life threatened all I have to do is take a walk around my neighborhood at night.  I don't need to pay for the pleasure.
Jeez, I could write a book.  I didn't realize how much stuff I avoid.

I avoid being naked if I can helpmit.  I do not like much showing off the saggy loose skin.
I also avoid buffets.  I see too msany regular looking folks at work who have MRSA or other bugs and they just up at the buffet scooping out mashed potatoes like the world is fine.  Anyhow, I also avoid LEFTOVERS LIKE THE PLAGUE.  I have a crock pot at work that I cook in because I hate left overs so bad.  The food just seems to dry out and not be as enticing as when it is fresh.  Steak, chicken, hamburgers.  Anything I can put Golden Mushroom Soup or BBQ sauce on.
I have tried to avoid Pringles, but it has been a futile attempt.  LOL

Ice cream, But thats good cause ice cream and pizza used to make my world go round.

The only buffet I do is Golden Corral. My daughter works there and she gets me the 'medical meal' $6.00. Now I only get it there cause she rings me up. I dont go out asking for a discount cause I dont want to have to explain to everyone....

My biggest problem was being alone in the house with food. THAT always made me 'hungry'.

Milk, but my SBX latte's seem to be fine...Maybe its just in my head.

Pretty much any food that looks ultra 'rich' = DUMP!

I avoid SF jello and SF "fruit-flavored" drinks because I got so sick of them pre-op and immediately post-op. I also avoid exercise like the plague. Yeah, I know.
