OT: He's gone.....

Yesterday, I put a huge piece of my heart on an airplane to Lackland AF Base.  Letting go of Chris at the airport was physically and emotionally the hardest thing I've ever done.  Wow...never imagined.  BUT....he is in great hands, he will be a better man because of it, and he will be fine.  He got his 1st  phone call last night around 9 to let us know he had mailed a post card with his address on it and that he was ok.

On a positive note, obviously depression is a huge factor with weight loss because I have lost a pound every day this week!  LOL  I haven't been this low since I was pregnant with Chris 18 years ago.

Everyone have a great day!

Can't wait to come visit in October for his graduation.  We are planning a trip to the Riverwalk and the Alamo while we are there with him.

I am in SA as well. His time will fly by and you'll be here before you know it. October is a good month to visit because it won't be 105 then, hopefully.

I worry about the heat, but they assured us yesterday that they take precautions with the heat to make sure they are safe.

I can understand completely!

When our son Erik left for basic training for the Army 11 years ago, it was so difficult!  I have only seen my husband cry twice (once when his grandmother passed away) in our 35 years of marriage.  I will never forget that night when the recruiter came to our house and took our son away.

But now we couldn't be any more proud of his accomplishments!  He's done so many awesome things for himself and this country!  He's grown into such a responsible, respectable young man and my heart bursts with pride!  He is now in the Army Reserves after serving active duty for 8 years-he loves it!

I hope you can keep in touch via e-mail as well.  When Erik was over in Italy, Germany, Kosovo and Afghanistan, we could e-mail each other almost daily and that helped so much!  So no matter where Chris goes, I hope that you can always keep in touch!

I wish you, your family AND your son all the best, and be proud!  He's doing such a wonderful thing for himself and his country!

And congratulations on your weight loss even though it was from the depression.  I just hope you're feeling o.k.!

Thanks... They told us that it would be a few weeks before he was allowed to call home and it will be on a Sunday.  Once he leaves for AIT, we will get to talk to him more often which will be nice.  We are so proud of him and this is the best decision that he could have made.  I just feel like a huge piece of me left with him yesterday.

I'm feeling really good physically...now if my heart would just catch up.

The lady at the airport shook his hand and told him "Thank you" yesterday and I lost it.  I could tell he was really touched by it.  Thanks Jenny.

I am retired Air Force. I went to basic training at Lackland this time of the year also. Even in 1975, the staff at the training facilities are very safety conscious and your son will be just fine. Your son is now a part of the Air Force family and part of something bigger than ourselves. The lesson's he will learn will serve him for a lifetime. Be proud of his service and be proud you have raised a good son. It may sound like a cliché now days, but from a member of the military family to another thank you and your son for serving.
