Tired of being compared!!!
As of today I have lost a total of 66 lbs which puts me at 208. Loving it!!! Now that I have that out of the way, here goes my rant for this Monday morning!
My best friend who also happens to be my sister-in-law has a niece that had the bypass 2 weeks ago. The niece has never told me what she weighed but if I had to guess it would be over 400 lbs. She has lost 42 lbs since surgery. That's great ... I'm thrilled for her. BUT.......they are now comparing us. That gripes my a**! At church yesterday morning, her mother tells me about how much she has lost in 2 weeks and then looks at me and says "how long has it taken YOU to lose 66 lbs??"
We as patients know that everyone loses different. If you start at a higher weight, you will lose it faster. I did not go into all of that with her. I feel like I have done great and am continuing to do great. I'm proud for the niece and I hope that she continues to do wonderful with her surgery. However, I will NOT be compared to her and I may have to speak up and put them all in their place!

I love my new life!!!
I hate when people question me about my surgery.I would nicely tell her everyone loses at a different rate.I have also told people I dont weigh myself anymore and I don't know my actual weight loss.Usually they will stop. However not many people know this time around and for the few that do it's still fustrating.I'm finding people just love to pry.You are doing great and thats what matters.
You're doing great!! I had my surgery the beginning of April and have only lost 58#. I've read on here that the heavier you are the faster it comes off in the beginning. Just hang in there. She'll eventually slow down and you will be at goal. You know the saying..."what goes around comes around!" Good luck on your journey.
That would really upset me. You are doing great. I have to remind myself not to compare myself to you. We had our surgery on the same day, but I have only lost 61 pounds. The big difference is in clothing sizes. I am 5'8 and weigh 215, but still wear a size 20. I long for the day I can shop in regular clothing stores.
As you mentioned, people with a higher weight do lose faster. I think age and individual metabolism also has a lot to do with it. I could easily lose 5 pounds a week when I was 18 years old. 20 years later I have a body I have mistreated with years of yo yo dieting. It comes off much slower now even with WLS.
