It's not fair!

I see your point Amy, and I have heard lots of comments about head hunger vs. real hunger.

I have some to the conclusion that hunger IS hunger....if you want to eat it really doesn't make it any better if it comes from your head or your body.  I just thought that I was not supposed to feel hungry, I was looking forward to that.  I feel like I got short changed!  Now that I posted this I feel better knowing that I am SOOO not alone in this.

But I totally understand what you are saying, and yes I think that I have is head hunger, it just sucks all the same!

I an 3 weeks post OP and I def. have head hunger sometimes...smelling food or seeing things makes my mouth water but it's not a physical hunger. It's kind of like pavlovs dog and the dinner bell....we are accustomed to seeing and smelling food and eating it rather than feeling hungry. It's all about the behavior modification. Try to listen to your pouch and not your head....easier said than done I know. The more you practice the easier it will become. Also my doctor recommended only eating 3x a day rather than eating smaller meals to avoid stretching the pouch. God Bless

Not to contradict you doctor, but how could eating 6 smalls meals a day stretch your pouch as opposed to 3 larger meals?

That just doesn't make sense.  If I only eat 3 or 4 ounces of something, whether I do that 3X's, or 6X's it should not matter.

I think it is eating large portions that will stretch your pouch, plus lots of vets say that stretching is actually a pretty hard thing to do.  But I worry about it anyway

I believe it is because when you contiunally eat through the day it is the bottom of the pouch that becomes stretched not the pouch itself. This is how people gain weight after surgery according to my dr by continually eating. This is what he advised me so this is what I follow. I am merely sharing my experience with you. Best of luck.

Interesting?  I think I am going to share this questions as a thread, I think it will lead to a good discussion.  I would really like to know if that is the case since it is my most highest goal not to stretch my new stomach!

Thanks!

Continually eating would make you gain weight because you would get in far too many calories.  However, eating six small meals a day cannot stretch the pouch.  I'm not sure what you mean by the bottom of the pouch, not the pouch itself.  Isn't the bottom of the pouch part of the pouch itself?  But if your doctor said eating more than three small meals would stretch the pouch, he was not telling you the truth.  In fact, you'd be more likely to stretch the pouch eating three big meals a day instead of six small meals.  The only way to stretch the pouch is to eat far too much, over and over again.
