Healthier Chinese Food Options

Last night my family got Chinese food. First time I had it since the surgery. I had a little bit of sizuan chicken and some beef with broccoli. I thought these were better choices because they aren't breaded or fried. I also skipped the rice. Are these okay choices?

I think you did great!

Three things to watch out for with Chinese food:

-Grease: they can have a LOT of oil in them which carry a lot of calories and I don't know about you but my pouch hates grease. Ask for things to be steamed instead of fried in the wok.

-Sneaky sugars in the sauces. They can get you when you are least expecting it.

-MSG!!! It is the reason I now have a mind thing about Chinese food. Make sure your picks are no-MSG. It might not even bother you but still. For some of us, MSG makes us deathly ill.

But it sounds to me like you made smart choices.

OMG! I was waiting on this post because the other day I wanted to order chinese food so bad!  Before my surgery I was an Almond Chicken, shrimp fried rice and egg foo yung eating person...that's all I ever ordered.

But I know now after surgery I can't eat that anymore, but I was wondering what other thing could I order that wouldn't make me dump.....shrimp and broccoli popped in my head but other than salmon I haven't ate any other seafood and kind of nervy about doing so.

You made great choices! Lean meat with veggies, minus sugary sauce and fillers is a good choice! One of my favorite Chinese options is the steamed veggies with chicken or beef.

FYI, sometimes they fry the meats that aren't breaded, like the beef in the beef with broccoli.  You would never think it because it seems like a healthy dish.

my local chinese stores sells a diet menu with no sugar, msg, sauce, and it's grilled.

I order shrimp ONLY from chinese stores (mainly cause they are the MOST recognizable meat IMO)
