Way to go!!!  (pun intended!) LOL

I swear, prior to surgery, I could go several times a day. Now, I go very seldom and also need the help of stool softeners to go.

Kelly, I think you mentioned that Ferrous Fumerate Iron could cause costipation - I think you may be absolutely right -- what is an other Iron that I can take that would have this horrible side effect?

BIG TMI alert! (So stop reading now if you are easily grossed out! Seriously)

I realized after I went that I couldn't remember when I went last...but I finally pooped today and this BM was so hard and so big, that I swear without exagerating that it was the size of a large Zucchini - I was afraid it wouldn't fit in the hole of the toilet. My butt has been in pain all day...and although it sounds funny, it is not...and made me incredibly crabby!

So when I saw your post - Yeah, I pooped! I couldn't help but to feel your excitement.

Don't worry, I am not easily grossed out at all.  I used to be a nursing assistant.  I talked to patients about their poop and looked at their poop and cleaned up their poop all day long.

Carbonyl iron usually does not cause constipation.  I use Sundown Perfect iron which I order from drugstore.com but apparently some stores carry it too.  And CVS has a brand called Feosol, but if you get that, make sure you're getting the carbonyl one because they also make ferrous sulfate and that will really stop you up.

Heme iron is probably less likely than carbonyl even to cause constipation but it's expensive.  It does have the added benefit of being able to take it with your calcium, though.

I bet your butt does hurt!  I've been told a daily dose of Miralax helps a lot, and I assume that's what worked for me today.  Took several days, though.  But I plan to continue it daily.  I also just ordered some magnesium oxide from vitalady, which is supposed to help too.

Kelly, my calcium pills have a little bit of magnesium oxide (50mg per pill) in them to help combat constipation. Coupled with a stool softener, I go everyday like clockwork now. It's still hard (texture) about one day a week, but I never have to struggle to go.

I hope I get the same results from it!  It should be here soon (along with a few protein shake samples 'cause every time I order something from vitalady I have to try a couple new protein shakes).

I just placed my first order with vitalady last week for the 50,000IU D3 and Vit K, and decided to buy my first ever bottle of SF syrup. Coffee flavored to add to my shakes.  I can't wait until my order gets here.

I didn't know vitalady sold samples of shakes, I'll have to keep that in mind.  I just switched to the CVS store brand this weekend.  They sell individual packets as well as big bags so I tried them out and really liked them.  They aren't as sickening sweet as the ones I've tried in the past and I'm really enjoying both the chocolate and vanilla flavors right now.  Now that I know vitalady sells the samples as well, I'll be able to try a lot more. Thanks. :)

Vitalady is awesome, I am so lucky she lives like 20-30 minutes from me, so I can go in there & sample almost anything, it was really helpful in pre & post surgery, now 3 years out I know what works & what doesnt. Good luck to you & hope you find things that work, I also buy alot of Solaray vitamins that are lozenges, so they are more easily absorbed & just go down overall instead of filling my new tummy with big pills that I dont fully digest or absorb .

She sells samples of about a million different brands and flavors.

I have to pick up some meds at CVS tomorrow so I'll look for their protein when I'm there.  I've been wanting to try it.  I love coffee in vanilla shakes.  It's good in chocolate too but I like vanilla more.
