I think im leaning more towards the DS.....
just worried about maintaining and know alot more about the DS what do you think?I was only thinking of RNY bc my surgeon told me with GERD it may worsen .... I dont want that to base my choice, n regret it 5-10 years lATER..with regain... any long term success storys please share:) so many mixed feelings.... and I have to let them know by monday my pretests are done they r sudmiting for aproval monday or tuesday.... so help,,....
Well, first of all, I don't see why you must let them know Monday. If you haven't decided yet, why can't they just wait a few more days until you decide to submit everything? Don't let them rush you into something.
I don't know enough about you to have an idea of which surgery might be best for you. I don't think I would choose a surgery based on only one factor, but if I had GERD and it was something that bothered me a lot, I would certainly consider which surgery might make it better and which would not. I think it is possible to keep the weight off with either surgery.

I wouldn't base my decision on whether or not I am going to "regain" as to what surgery to have. DS'ers regain, also. You can "eat around" all of the WLS's. I would base my decision on what kind of lifestyle you can live with long term. Vitamin deficiancies are common with both RNY and DS, but DS'ers seem to have a bit more of a struggle keeping iron levels and calcium levels up. DS'ers can take NSAIDS, RNY'ers can not. GERD is almost completly cured with RNY, can get worse with a sleeve.
Good luck with your decision
Good luck with your decision
Don't rush your decision, this is a lifestyle change YOU want to be sure your choice is right for you. I see pluses and minuses with with WLS, heck all have advantages and disadvantages. Stastically the DS regain is less then other surgeries, deficiencies can happen with both. GERD is a serious condition, some people have had good sucess curing GERD with the DS others have had lots of problems with it after, even if they didn't have it before.
The DS is a great surgery for many, the RNY is also a great surgery for many. Only YOU can ultimately decide what you need/want.
Please continue to research, don't allow any surgeon to push you to make a decision without being sure what you want. It's better to wait a week or two, month or two to get the right surgery.

If you spend just a few days on this forum, you'll see that almost everyone is scared. Well, maybe everyone is, but not everyone posts about it. i think it might be a little odd if you weren't scared at all. You're making a decision that is going to have a huge impact on the rest of your life. You're planning to have major surgery, and although most people come through it just fine, all surgeries have risks. You're going to have to total change your relationship with food and change is usually scary.

I agree with Kelly...good advice. If I had a really high BMI, I would probably go for the DS. However I had horrible, horrible GERD that made me not want to go to bed sometimes fearing that horrible reflux coming up while I was sleeping. Since my RNY, I have not had a hiccup or one incedence of GERD. You need to weigh your options very carefully.
