how much weight can you lose from the RNY

I really would push for the DS.  It has a much better success rate, especially for people who are SMO.  There are additional nutritional requirements and I know you said you have a problem with GERD but hopefully that could be managed with PPIs.
I had terrible GERD before my revision (my first sugery included a sleeve) and it is completely gone since my revision.
I am not saying you couldn't be successful with a RNY.  There are many, many people who have had the RNY and are doing great.  But if you are talking statistics alone the DS will give you the best chances.

I have to agree with Lady Tazz. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that I had Rny, but I think that I would feel more confident that I would not regain with DS. I will fight everyday to use the tool that I have though. At least you are fimiliar with your options. What reason does you physician give you that makes him wanna suggest RnY instead?

I think 170 is a little unrealistic for someone who is 6 foot tall. Is there some reason that number is calling you?

no not for any reason. just pretty close to where im "sapose to be" on a chart.lol honestly I would feel great under 300.  I am trying to get my knees back to not hurt so I can start my jurney in Tae Kwon Do to get my black belt, I tried it for 3 months did great until my knee gave out now I limp and can barly get up off a chair n that was only 5 months ago:/

The reason I ask is that people get a number in their heads and then when they don't get to "that" number they feel like a failure. I was almost 400 pounds as well. I had no idea what I would/could/or should weigh.  They told me 150 but I knew that was not a realistic goal. If I was still trying to reach "that" number I would feel like a failure. I'm nothing of the sort.
I can move, wear regular clothes, and not have to take any blood pressure meds. I weigh between 199-209. That's my range. Those are my numbers. You will find yours and hopefully feel like the success that you are!

It's possible. I'm 5' 10" and was 400 at my heaviest. This morning I weighed 175. My goal weight was just a vague "under 200 pounds" because I was afraid of fixating on a specific number and ending up disappointed.

It is more then possible but there are a few things to consider.  I have heard that years of morbid obesity can cause our bones to become thicker to carry the extra weight so you really may be "big boned"  Also, there is the issue of excess skin, which can be 20lbs or more when you have a lot to lose.
You may be better served to go with a size goal.  At 6 feet tall you would look great at a size 14 or 12.  There are many people here that weigh 200lbs or more that wear a size 14.  You will probably wear a smaller size then someone of your height that weighs less but has never been MO.

RNY on 04/10/12 with
You can lose the weight with RNY but a person with your high BMI has the option of DS. I love my RNY but if I was your starting size I would consider the DS, especially because you have a good doctor to do it and a success story in your family to give you an idea of what can happen. Good luck.
