Pot Smoking after Surgery
HW: 274 PreOp Diet: 271 Surgery: APRIL 25, 2011
I love my new life!!!
There is such a thing as addiction transference. Most or all of us are food addicts and some of us have an addictive personality. When you have this surgery to conquer or control your food addiction, but then you start drinking or doing drugs, you can transfer your addiction to one of those.
Also, it sounds like you already have a mindset that food goes down easier when you smoke weed first, you could be setting yourself up for an addiction to weed. And YES, no matter what anyone says, marijuana CAN be addictive. I know people who smoke it every single day. They have killed a LOT of brain cells, trust me, I can see it.
I hope you can find another way to make eating easier for you.

Anyway, just wondered if anyone else found this to be true.
Yes I too experience the same thing I thought it was just weird. I'm scheduled for surgery in a month and honestly food is not an issue for me I'm OK with not eating. Its just I've done it so long with no exercise that it's harder for me to loose wru. I am a smoker (marijuana ) and I just can't get up in the morning and eat I smoke first one or two puffs then I can eat only something small though once I eat I smoke again another one or two puffs but it doesn't leave me hungry I don't like to feel full I know that sounds weird. I smoke one blunt a day will I be able to smoke after surgery??
Taught myself to never eat after smoking because it kills the buzz. I think if you use it now to eat it can trigger eating when you get closer to maintenance. Your brain will just make that leap you know...stoned = eating and you'll just automatically head for the food before you even realize it. And if it contributes to you eating more at a sitting...well you will be able to do that in time. Best to teach yourself to eat without using anything to make it easier.
Actually I just saw that you are 5.5 months post-op. Really should be able to keep food down at this point without a lot of difficulty most of the time. Have you talked to your surgeon? Might be something going on.
However, with nausea and arthritis pain it can be quite helpful. Or so I have heard.
Obligatory PSA: One must always be aware of the prospect of the psychological addiction that pot can lead to, however. That is why I made the "Stoned=eating" analogy.
I would just be VERY careful about transfer addiction and over-doing it at meal time after you smoke because you think things go down easier.
