Calories at one year post op?

Okay, I just figured out that on a GOOD day, I only get about 700 calories. 800 if I'm lucky. I'm at goal (2 lbs shy of MY goal) but my surgeon wants me to stop losing as the extra skin removal will put me at a "iffy" low weight.  I'm not trying to lose and it keeps falling off..if I get out and walk, go shopping, or even go pee more than normal I just lose weight..(still drop 2-5 lbs a week when exersizing) ..

My question is..how much SHOULD I be getting in to maintain and not drop as well as ...how the heck do I increase calories without increasing fat, cholesterol, carbs etc?? My nut was no help she just said to "eat more" - yeah I'm questioning her degree now -_-

congrats at being at goal.  I have hit my origninal goal but haven't changed what I am doing and have at least slowed way down if not stopped.

Track your food intake daily so you know what you are really taking in.  Then you can know what happens when you add foods in.  I'm around 900 a day.

Add another protein shake. That will add another 100+ calories of good food.  See what that does.  Add veggies, good oils like nuts, flax, avacado.   Try adding 100 calories at a time for a week or so and see what happens.  If you are still losing, add another 100 calories.

Good luck.  I hope maintainance is that easy for everyone.

To maintain and not lose you need to get equivalant to your RMR.  Your RMR is the number of calories your body burns just to funtion.  700-800 is WAY to low and it is probably closer to 1300-1500 depending on your activity level, as long as your body is in a caloric deficit you will continue to lose.

To find out your RMR you can use an online calculator which will give you a starting point that is close and then you can tweak it up or down.  Second option is to have some metabollic testing done where they test your BMR or your RMR which is more accurate.

Remember these are what your body requires to essentially do nothing other than function at rest.  If you have a vigorous exercise routine you will need to offset some of those calories.

Use a site like LiveStrong.com to actually chart your food intake and any exercise so you can see what your actual calories are both in and out.  The gold version of LiveStrong will let you tailor your caloric goal and show you your net calories based on intake and output.

Good Luck

How much you should be getting in order to maintain depends on your current weight, your activity level, your metabolism, etc.  I would just gradually increase your calories until you stop losing.  A protein shake is a good way to do that.  It's easy, has lots of protein, and you can choose one low in carbs and sugar and stuff.  Otherwise, try to squeeze in an extra snack during the day.

I'm at my goal or thereabouts. I am below my doctor's goal but not too low that he wants me to gain.   I asked the NUT yesterday what i should be eating (I am 2 years out) and I was told 1200-1500 calories a day with focus on protein fruits and veggies...  good fats are fine as well...

Thanks guys! I had a talk with my ma last night about this too - we're going back to basics lol.  We're hitting the farmers market tomorrow and the grocery store for veggies for me (we already have all my proteins for a few weeks we just buy veggies bi-weekly) I havent been doing carbs unless its something like oatmeal - usually stone ground ..once its cooked properly it feels good going down and I usually add a scoop of unflavored protein to it.  I ve been doing fruits n veggies - looks like I just need to plan it out better.

Plan: gonna be separating the veggies to be cooked into servings and have it all ready to go that way I don't avoid doing it.  Maybe make up some protein muffins if I can find all the right low carb no sugar ingredients at my local stores :-/ anyone know a good recipe? I usually find recipes on eggface, just havent looked there yet

okay, so I have to ask what you are actually eating to only get 800 calories/day.  My surgery was OCtober 2010 and I get way more than that in.

I do exercise 45 minutes or more walking and running 4-5 days/week.

Can I ask how tall you are and what your doctor considers and "iffy" low weight? Because I noticed on your tracker that you're about 182ish, and I can't imagine you'll have SO much skin removed that it will drop you from there to underweight unless you're extremely tall. I'm asking out of curiosity, that's all.

I'm about nine months out, and I get anywhere from 600-1000 calories a day. But I've had some complications (an esophageal motility disorder developed post-op that's made it painful to eat).
