Dear Newbies: STAY OFF THE DAMN SCALE!!!

Thank you for this post.  I am still a newbie (6 weeks post op).  I only get on the scale once a week...but I do get flustered.  It does help to be reminded that I am still healing, that my body is going "what the heck did you do to me?", and that it will all balance itself out in time.  My tummy is still getting use to different foods.  My mind is still getting use to having to remind myself to eat.  My body is not sure what is going on but it is coming along for the ride.  :)

I do not regret this decision one bit and hope that all the newbies really read what you are saying and remember why they did this in the first place.  I will tell you my number one reason...I didn't want to be in a wheelchair by age 50.  And I'm not going in one without a fight.

Thanks!

I weigh myself maybe once or twice a month. I don't worry about the scale. One thing I have noticed I have slowed down alot in weightloss but I have loss inches and sizes. I agree with OP weighing everyday will drive you crazy.

I saw the title of the post, and I swear it said Dear Kim: STAY OFF THE DAMN SCALE!!!  LOL!  I have become so obsessed (understatement of the day) with weighing myself.  I weigh myself everytime I am in the bathroom at home and yes my numbers have been going up and down the same 3 lbs for the last two weeks, but at the same time, i can feel my waist slimming when I put my hands on my hips and other NSV...so thank you Nik for keepin it real and not "co-signing my bull****".  I'm a big girl and this is a forum of truth!

Well aren’t you the cutest thing???? Much cuter than that Disney character avie you had before. And such a bright smile.

YES! You are changing and becoming your true self. Embrace her. She’s awesome. The scale will TRY to make you doubt her but she is the truth. The scale is not.

Hugs.

Such  a wise post. Hopefully it will be well read.
We are all so much more than a number. Don' t give all the power to a number.
I am in maintains. I weigh about once a week to stay in my happy range. I've been in my range for awhile now. It makes me not obsessive about food or diet. I think now I could do it without a scale. I know what it feels like.
In the first year after surgery..the number will go down. Nothing you can do about it.  Might as well stay off for as long as possible for the big drop!

Maybe because I am pretty new at this maintenance phase, I am being hypervigilant. But I keep hearing over and over (often on these boards) about regain, and after working so hard to get where I am I just don't want to go there. I love where I'm at- I just want to stay here, and I know that takes ongoing work, one day at a time.
Also, I know me too well- I'm too much of a weasel. If I can justify or excuse anything, I will.
It's not about a number for me, it's about my health, and it helps me to measure and keep track. Then I can focus on other stuff.
It's just what works for me, and we're all different.

But see…you’re not the person I’m talking about though.

If you’re using the scale as a tool to make healthy decisions for yourself, this post is not for you. This post is to the folks who make themselves nearly physically sick from scale obsession. Folks who stop eating or switch to only drinking protein shakes or crash dieting or doing everything EXCEPT eating healthfully, drinking your water, moving your body and doing the mental work.

I’m not opposed to the scale. I am opposed to scale obsession. You, ma’dear, don’t appear to have scale obsession.
