HELP!! My son is sneaking food!
Let me start by saying that I am so glad everyone has strange food issues from the past, cause I am now no longer alone.
We had junk all the time when I was young. Grandparents babysat us and everyday there was a chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, ice cream or some other wonderful treat! ( Did I mention cinnamon rolls?)
My husband is thin, but his parents would lock the freezer and pantry with a pad lock to keep the kids from eating the food and then they would gorge themselves once the sent the children to bed. (They are morbidly obese, too)
My husband gorges himself, but denies it... Then says he is putting on weight and should be careful. I tell him that he looks great, but the older he gets it will catch up!
Our daughter is 5 and weighs 75 lbs. She has been hiding food and sneaking food for years. The doctor believes she has a bit of OCD where she obsesses over food and compulsively eats...
(I just had to stop typing and busted her sneaking food!!!!!!) Really??? How did she know we were discussing this!!!
At this point I have stopped desserts for both children, even though the other child is 9 and 75 lbs. I do not want to single out the heavier child. The sneaking of food is very freaky for me and I wonder why she is doing it!
I feel for you!

Additionally, I do not want her to have to go through what obese kids go through. I don't know how my parents dealt with it so well, but I would go to jail or something. People are horrible to people who are different.
What is bad, is that these days it seems more people are overweight than skinny!
Good luck, I don't want you or your child to go through the cruelty either!!!!!

You've had big changes in your house. What you eat now and what you ate before surgery has drastically changed. I had an 8 year old too when I had surgery. I had to be careful not to put my food stuff on him. He is a skinny guy who eats only when he's hungry. I used to try and get him to eat my leftover food and he got a strong boundary about that.
I think your son is caught up in the changes and you are being a bit over zealous with his food.. It's a tightrope I have been on too.
I can't have a lot of dessert in my house. I can't sleep if there are yummy cookies in the house. My son and I have dessert Wednesday now. We go out to fancy restaurants and order dessert. We usally share and we usually don't even finish them. It makes it special and something he looks forward to. (I do too)
Good luck to you...and don't worry so much!
