appt at Cleveland Clinic
Apparently the surgeon with whom I had the misunderstanding about "the plan" for dealing with my intermittent abdominal pain did follow through with his thought that perhaps I should go to OSU or the Cleveland Clinic, because I got a call from the Chronic Abdominal Pain Clinic at the Cleveland Clinic today. Their initial intake involves four days of various appts -- including an extensive intake assessment, a meeting with a pain psychologist (?), and a meeting with a pain management specialist. They will also want to do another EGD because of the RNY.
I am still going to see if the other bariatric surgeon here is willing to exploratory surgery (hopefully before then!), but if he is not willing to do surgery or I cannot get in to see him before then, at least I will have something to fall back on. My PCP will need to extend my short term disability (STD) because right now I am scheduled to go back to work on Sept 12, but that is the week she is scheduling my various appointments for. (She is going to call me back Monday once she has them all set up.)
Not sure how to handle logistics of traveling adn the EGD (I may have to pay to put the dogs in the kennel and ask my mom to go with me, since if I go alone (and leave my dogs with her) that will cause a problem since I will not be able to drive after the EGD and I don't know anyone who lives in Cleveland).
Is anyone familiar with this program? I looked at their web page, but it doesn't give a lot of detail (other than telling me that AFTER the initial week, I will have to go back up again to get the results and that they do not prescribe narcotics).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Hello Lora..I don't know much about THAT particular department, but I have a little knowledge about Cleveland Clinic in general.
As far as not being prescribed narcotics..if your pain warrants them, I believe they will send you over to their regular chronic pain management department.
If staying at the Cleveland Clinic's hotel isn't an option, you may want to check into a hospital shuttle service. I know that a few years back, the clinic offered free shuttle service from a few local hotels. Also some of the local hotels may offer that service as well. That way your dogs CAN stay with your mom!
I hope that you get this resolved!!!

This sounds like a good plan, if the other surgeon near you is not able to help. I would really hope with such an extensive assessment, they would be able to figure something out. And if all they deal with is abdominal pain, which I'm guessing since they are called the chronic abdominal pain clinic, it sounds like they should be good at dealing with this kind of thing.
Lora, I'm not sure where you are in Ohio, but I am not too far from Cleveland so PM me if I can help in some way when you have the EGD.

Then I'm in between you and Cleveland. I'm in Mansfield.

One of our long time vets on the Texas board just recently came back from the Cleveland Clinic. She had what sounds like an atypical experience there, but could probably give you some insight into what they were able to do for her.

Meggie has had alot of odd complications since her RNY, but is hopeful that the surgery she had at the CC will help resolve her issues. I'm not sure if her profile is public, if not, let me know and I can let her know you might want to talk to her about her experience and issues that took her to the CC.
