I take vit. C with my iron like I should. It is a chewable and is horrible tasting. Does anyone have one that is good? I will take what I have cause it is after all a med but hoping there is one that is better out there.

How long after surgery did they have you start your vit C?  They told me just iron and multivitamin until the 6 week checkup and then I'll start B12 and calcium, etc...

You should take vit c when you take your iron so that you can absorb your iron.

I was on the same plan you are pretty much.

I'm taking Bariatric Advantage Iron with C chewables.  Passionfruit flavored.  It's the only chewable vitamin/supplement that I actually enjoy the flavor of.  One tablet contains the iron with C I need.  You may need more iron though, I'm post-menopausal due to hysterectomy.  I take one at bedtime.

They actually do not contain the vitamin  C you need.  In order for vitamin C to help you absorb iron, you need 200 mg C to every 30  mg iron.  The BA iron chewables don't have enough C.

Thank you for that information.  I guess I'd better beef up on that too.  I'm so glad there are people like you on these boards!  I was B12 deficient BEFORE surgery, and the only reason I started taking more was because of your posts.  My doctor didn't even suggest doing anything about it.  No wonder I was so tired all the time.

I hate that companies market iron with vitamin C and lead people to think they have enough C to help them absorb the iron when they don't.  Because seriously, how many people are gonna know how much C they need with their iron?

Are you less tired now?  Low B12 will make you absolutely exhausted.

Why don't vitamin companies (especially those specializing in bariatrics) just formulate their products correctly?  And yes, why aren't doctors more informed?  Grrrr....

And yes, I am feeling MUCH more perky, thank you.   Again, I'm glad you have taken the time and energy to do your research and help keep all of us informed.

Because most vitamin companies are out to make money.  That's their primary goal, not our health.
