I spend too much money on going out to eat.
My wife and I went to a baseball game (SF Giants) the other night. First one since my surgery almost 14 months ago. I don't think things have changed too much, but I was a LOT more conscious of the amount of crap that's sold at the ballpark this time. Nothing but grease and carbs.
I guess going out to eat poses the same issues to all of us: how to balance the convenience of having someone else do the cooking and cleaning, the variety of things available, and the need to continue to practice healthy eating habits.
If your eat-out places provide good meals, and you can afford it, then why not? The problem is, protein is expensive.
I like Kelly's suggestion of making a weekly menu.

Don't beat yourself up too hard. With the amount you can eat, cooking sort of seems like a waste, doesn't it?
I felt that way too. But then I have the girls to feed as well so that helps me. I usually cook ahead - on Sundays - for the week to have grab and go food. I am getting back into doing the gym right after work so I have to cook ahead so I can reheat dinner and then the girls can eat and we can head out.
Cooking is my zen (can you tell?) so spending a whole day doing it is bliss. Oddly, when I cook I don't eat that much. Strange.
Anyway, you might try cooking ahead. Cooking things in ramekins that you can assemble helps with the volume. I have some ramekin recipes on BF but it's as easy as layering some spaghetti sauce with meat, some ricotta and some Italian blend cheese in a ramekin and calling it lasagna. :)
