OT...My son is about to leave.
Thank you so much. I do believe everything that you have said. I believe that God will watch over him and that only HE knows when that time will come. Our kids are way smarter than we give them credit for sometimes. I don't know how I will handle deployment if and when that happens but I will just have to remember that this is his decision and this is the life that he has chosen for himself.

I love my new life!!!
Hey Tonya, For the first time in a long time I almost cried from reading one of these post. You know that I have 2 sons in the AirForce by way of Lackland and 2 daughter-in-laws also. And you know my husband spent more than 27 years in the military. He is getting one of the best employers anyone can ask for. They WILL take care of him. Bootcamp is not hardly what it use to be. I think it's actually gone soft. No Kidding. My husband was an instructor at our last duty station. My middle son and daughter-in-law are still stationed at lackland. And my youngest son went to school at Sheppard. You have my #, call me if your son or you have questions about the area. If I am not mistaken and I remember well, when we went to graduation the entire service including awards day and graduation events were 2 or 3 days. Plan to go for the entire thing. You wont regret it. And get your video/pic camera ready. You go proud Mommie, TTYL sharon
All I had to do was read the first few lines of this and know just how you feel!! I am a VERY proud Army wife and Mom!! My son *stepson, all I didn't do was changed diapers, everything else I was there, from age 4 on* was 18 when he went to BCT! I was so proud of him the day I sat at graduation to watch him, and to see the man he had grown into in what seemed like forever but just a short amount of time. He will be so busy he won't have time to miss home much! You will be amazed at how much they learn and well in my sons case...seemed like he had a clue after BCT..lol Good luck and you have other Military Moms here with you to support you all the way!! Congrats for joining the Silent Ranks :)
Tonya - 2 months ago I thought I would be in your shoes. All my son wanted to do was join the Air Force. I was teary eyed when we went to the recruiters office to sign all the papers. Just thinking where the last 18 years went blew my mind. Then we got the call the next day, medically disqualified from any branch of service, all because of bee allergies. It would be right about this time that my son would be headed for Lackland as well. Now we are scrambling to figure out what he is going to do with his future. My heart feels for you as I am a former Army wife, so I know how hard it is for someone you love to go away. He will do great and you will be so proud and amazed at the transformation he will go thru just in the time he is at Lackland. Best of luck to you and your son. Enjoy the last few weeks you have with him before he leaves.
Tonya,
Be proud of him for what he's doing with his life and always support him! The putting them on a plane will always be a hard thing to do, but believe me when you get to see him getting off that plane, everything is right with the world! I only have 4 more months to go as a military mom, but it's been one hell of a ride for the past 11 years. It's been truly an amazing journey to see the boys that we send off to boot camp and overseas...then to see the awesome young men that they have become when they return (ok..time to turn off the tears). And, as my guys tell me...suck it up, you're a Marine Mom! lol Just keep the carepackages going while he's away, a little piece of home always helps!. Also, I'm only allowed to the curb at DFW airport...yes, the goodbye's are always hard.
