My surgeon has her patients start the sublinguals right after surgery.

Well, the ASMBS says you can wait up 'til three months to start your B12.  Not that you should, just that you can.  But it seems like most people start theirs sometime between right after surgery and one month out.  That's just what I've seen people post, I haven't seen any kind of official research on it.

I have been on B12 injections for 5 years now.  WAY pre surgery.

the nerve damage is unreal.  I had tingling in my hands and feet, I have eye damage from when my levels got to 170 when we caught my deficiency.  I had horrible headaches until I got my levels under control as well.  As for me the sublinguals did NOT work.  I had to have injections.  I also could not last a whole month with oneshot.  when I do my left eye starts drooping like I have had a stroke and I get a HORRIBLE headache. so 2 shots a month for the rest of my life.  It even stopped me from breast feeding my babies because there is no research done to know it is safe for me and the baby.

b12 is very scary stuff.  it runs all your organs and your entire immune system.  before they found mine I was sick for an entire year including losing my voice for that entire year. (including during my wedding )

as far as how son after surgery.  I had mine immediately following but  am sure 6 weeks after is fine especially if you are fine on monthly injections.

What are your thoughts on Cyanocobalamin vs Methylcobamlamin based B-12.  I was told Meth. was better but it is more expensive and harder to find.  Therefore I take 5,000 Meth sub linguals I get from Vitalady.com

Methyl is supposed to be absorbed better.  However, most people seem to do fine with cyano.  In my opinion, if the cyano is cheaper and easier to find, then it would be OK to start out with that and watch your labs closely and switch to methyl if it appears your're not absorbing the cyano well enough.

Kelly, we discussed just this last night at my support group!  One of the ladies in "low" and they told her to take 1000mcg a day.  She has, for 3 weeks now and is STILL exhausted.  I learned she's taking the pill and told her to stop at CVS and get sublinguals!!  I know when I added the sublinguals I started feeling SO much better, even though I don't know WHAT my level WAS....  So once again, THANK YOU!!!
