OT: online dating sites
Well I have never used e-harmony or any of those sites, but I can tell you that I did meet my husband on myspace in 2007. It is possible to meet good people on the internet & have lasting relationships! I think it is funny that the topic is still so taboo for some people. It's 2011! I also have family members who have met in christian chat rooms, and some of the other dating sites as well. Go for it!!!
I met my husband on ChristianMingle.com. My sister also met her hubby online, so I am a firm believer that there are GOOD guys out there to meet online, although there is still a slight stigma attached to meeting people "online".
If you are a Christian, you should check out ChristianMingle, too. It's wonderful to be married to a fellow believer! Best of luck!!

That's how I met my partner and we've been together for almost eight years.
After a couple of... let's call them misadventures... I figured out what I thought was a good plan to make it work. We emailed back and forth a few times, then decided to talk on the phone. Our first call was great, we talked for about an hour and just felt really comfortable with each other. We decided to meet for dinner a few days later but spoke on the phone a couple more times before that. The first date was meeting at a restaurant, in a public place the whole time, he did not pick me up at my house or even know my address. Hey, I'm safety-conscious.
He lived about three hours away from me at the time, which was about as far as I was interested in meeting someone from. He invited me to visit him at his home for a few days a couple weeks after we first met. He had a guest room and said I could sleep there if we didn't feel ready to go to bed together yet. Before I went, I gave his name, address and phone number to a friend. I told her I would be calling her every day at a specific time to check in and that if she didn't hear from me within 30 minutes, she should call the police and tell them to go look for me. I probably sound paranoid but hey, bad stuff happens. We even had a code word so if I made the call but something bad was going on, she'd know the code word meant to call the police.
Well, everything went just great and about eight months later we moved in together.

I've never used online dating services, but it's great to hear so many positive reviews. I'm a firm believer in meeting people in what ever way works, and don't have any problems with using online dating services in needed. I'm not sure why there is a stigma attached to it? It must be a safety thing because I can't see how meeting prequalified people is worse than meeting strangers serendipitously elsewhere. I was lucky because my first wife and I lived in the same neighborhood, and my second wife and I worked in the same office, so it was like shooting fish in a barrel (j/k).
You are all giving me hope that maybe someday I will meet someone again. I have been on match.com, eHarmony, and Plenty of Fish with very little luck. I am not very good in writing about myself. I guess maybe I sound too boring, but I don't want to lie and deceive anyone by making myself out to be someone I am not. Someone out there will be lucky to meet me one day.
I want to wish you all luck (and love!).
I know a few folks who have been successful on EHarmony.... I am very happily married for 10+ years to a man I met at a JC Penney Outlet store... so love really can be found around ANY corner!!!!
Don- Your response really touched me. I have a feeling that you are correct about someone out there being lucky to meet you one day.

Don, you never know when love will find you. I met my first wife walking down the street in the neighborhood we both lived in, and my second wife in the elevator at to office building we both worked in. You never know when the right person will come along. Keep your eyes open and I'm sure that lucky person will find you.
Go for it Lora!!!
I met my husband on Match..... using my mother's profile! My pick-up line was "ignore the profile, I'm not a 50 year old trying to pick up a stud". We've been together ever since, 9 years ago.
