What is the general consensus on how long it lasts?

From what I have read, caloric malabsortion last any where from 18 mo's to 2 yrs.  Vitamin malabsorbtion last a lifetime.

Malabsorption of calories varies from person to person, but probaby around 18 months.  Maybe a little more.

Malabsorption of vitamins and minerals, forever.

I've heard a few people say that.  I'm going on three years out and I think I still malabsorb fats to a degree, based on my poop.  I'm not gonna describe it, though.

I second that. I still malabsorb fats. I won't go into how I know that but I do know it for sure.

Others might want to know this too so I am justing going to disclaimer by saying, WARNING: TMI

It's basically in the poo, dear. Poo can tell a pretty clear story about what's getting absorbed and what is not. Here is my evidence:

#1 - Nik no eat fat, Nik no poo (or at least not very often). Nik eats fat, Nik poos regularly.
#2 - Nik eat fat, poo floats (more fat content = float. More protein content = sinks to bottom)
#3 - Nik eat too much fat (and too much fat from grease especially) and Nik runs to bathroom shortly afterward

There, everything you ever wanted to know about Nik's excretory system!

Yep, fat floats.  In fact, if your poop floats (and you haven't had RNY), that might be a sign of gall bladder problems because gall bladder problems can prevent you from digesting fat normally.
