Going on STD, so at least I don't have to worry about losing my job
It's the best way to hang on to your job.
I had to do this last year.
I had very heavy radiation treatment in February & a short time afterwards I had a sort of break down.
I wasn't able to go to work on a regular basis so my Psychiatrist took me out on STD.
After that I had my 4th carpal tunnel surgery which was considered workers comp so when most of my office got laid off they had to wait until November when I returned to lay me off.
I worked for this company for 20 years & had never taken anything but vacation off until I got cancer a few years ago.
They were pretty good about all of it & gave me an incredible severance package including full pay & insurance that doesn't end until the end of this month.
Will say that I'm not looking forward to cobra payments but I need to keep my insurance.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation but am glad that the company treated you well when they had to do the lay-off. It's sad, but worrying about how I could possibly pay the Cobra premiums (in addition to the house, car, electric, food...) was a big part of my stress related to potentially losing my job... since, obviously, when you lose your job because you are illa nd unable to work, you NEED the medical coverage.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Lora,
I'm SO glad to hear that your PCP is working with you! I think the STD is a great idea. You can have peace of mind and the time you need to get to the bottom of your abdominal pain. Knowing your job is protected will be a big load off your mind! I'm really glad for you.
