Someone PLEASE make this belly pain go away (mini-rant)

My belly pain -- which was, of course, absent under the influence of the dilaudid fron the kidney stone incident on Friday and the percocet for the lingering soreness on Saturday -- is back.  Not severe ATM, just moderate... but I am so ^&#*$ [insert curse word of choice] sick of this pain!  It has been going on for almost a year and a half and is getting more frequent.  I am so pissed off that I have now seen three surgeons who won't help me... and so afraid that even once I get the records transferred from my RNY surgeon to this other gastric bypass surgeon that he won't be willing to do anything either.

I was raised by a Marine and am usually a fighter, but with everything else that is going on, this is REALLY wearing me down, physically and emotionally... and I am starting to notice some tolerance to the vicodin.

Somebody just make this stop!  Surgeons do exploratory surgery all the time for other people with unexplained pain... why is no one willing to help ME?!?

OK, rant over.

Keep fighting Lora!  Just keep going until you get the answer and relief that you want.  I think I told you before that I have a friend a year out from a Fobe pouch and she had pain in her belly, it turned out to be her old stomach was beginning to re-attach to her pouch!  AND she had a kink in her intestines that could not be seen with a scope or CT or any of the other test they ran until they just went in to look.

When you have pain their has to be an explanation so they need to find out what is going on.  I know what you mean about the Vicodin.  I have been taking it at night for my knee, and I have to take more then the doctor prescribed or else it doesn't work!  I wish so much I could  take NSAIDS!!  I never cared before.

My best wishes to you Lora!

I am so, so sorry you're having such a hard time getting help.

I started to tell you a whole big story about when I went to the ER with horrible back pain and they did nothing to help me, but then I decided to spare you the details.  I'll just say it totally sucked and while I do have back periodically, there have only been a few times it's been really, really bad.  Your situation is much worse than mine because it's been going on so long and happens so often.

I'm just so sorry no one will help.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

Lora, I feel so sad for all that you've suffered.  I'm praying for your healing and that you will be helped by the right doctor who listens to what you have to say.  You are VERY strong!  Everyone has their limits and you have been through so much.  I'm glad that you come here to OH to vent and to reach out.   There are so many people here (me included) who care about you and standing behind you, encouraging you to not give up and keep on fighting.  Feel free to vent..... we're here for you!

Try Google-ing "adhesions" and "physical therapy." Worth a shot.

Lora-

OMG I have an idea.

My abdominal pain/bowel resection  surgery was after the blood flow to part of the intestines was obstructed somehow.

I had 2 episodes of pain/hospitalization prior to my  ultimate X-lap  surgery.

Blood flow was cut off in 2 places and caused 24" of bowel to die-  When they got in to look around they saw the dead bowel but it had easily palpable pulses??

You have a history of blood clots, could you be having decreased blood flow to parts of the intestine causing pain???  (& it REALLY HURTS)

Can they inject dye in your veins to check the abdominal circulation??  I know they don't want to operate as it can cause more adhesions.  Run this idea by them.

For me they think it could have been caused by adhesions but it wasn't cut off when they got in there.  Though the intestines had died..  It's like a heart attack in your intestines.

Let me know what you think

Thanks for the idea... I will definitely ask!!  I have had various dye studies done in the legs and pelvis but don't know if they can do one of the intestines.

It also occurred to me earlier today (as I was adding a vicodin to my daily dose of coumadin) that we opted to leave the IVC filter in place after I had my panniculectomy done.  The information the vascular surgeon gave me on it indicated that there were very few complications associated with them, and I'm not even sure how it could possibly be causing the pain, but it is something no one has considered (or at leave have not discussed with me)... and it IS a deep pain.

I am sorry you are in so much pain. You know we have to be our biggest advocates. So, if this surgeon doesn't do anything, keep fighting until you find one that has the answers for you. Of course this is wearing you down you are in extreme pain, there is nothing wrong with that. We don't have to be bad-asses ALL the time.  Try to focus on one day at a time b/c you will get overwhelmed if you think further than that. Stop playing the what if game ( I know easier said than done) OK, so what if the next Dr doesn't do anything for you? You keep on trucking until you find one that does. Know that you have a lot of people who care about you on here. (((hugs))) PS, Vicoden never did anything for my pain. I had to use percocet or dilauded.

Aw Lora I am so sorry you are in so much pain. Chronic pain is just the worst. I hope you can find a surgeon who will help you. Hang in there and keep fighting. You gotta believe that it will get bette even though the pain probably makes that hard.
