D2 vsD3 (again)

I just saw my surgeon on Wednesday for my gallbladder removal post-op appointment. Having checked my paperwork a couple of weeks ago to see just what my Vitamin D level was and discovering it was at 27, I asked my doc "so what about my vitamin D level - it's really low, right?" He looked through my chart, said it was at 27and that was only SLIGHTLY low, that 32 is normal. Having learned so much on this sight about Vitamin D, I called him on it by saing "I thought it was supposed to be 80-90 or something like that" and he said no, it's fine, just take Citracal !

So, this is one of those instances where I will listen to what my doc has to say but make my own decision. My decision is to follow the advice of the vets on here who have experienced low Vitamin D and do what they have done to bring it up.

Well, your lab report probably says something like 30-80 is normal, which is probably why your doc said yours was only slightly low at 27.  But the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University says it should be at least 80.

This seems to be an issue where many of us have had to make our own decisions because many of us have had our docs say our vitamin D was fine when it was really low.  When mine was really low, like 25, my doc told me to make sure I took a calcium supplement with vitamin D and that would be enough to bring it up.  Um, not hardly.
