I-75 (at 70 mph) is no place to start passing a kidney stone!

Honey, I feel for you--I've had kidney stones myself, and they are right up there with birth/labor
pains.  The only good part about labor is that I got a beautiful baby from all the pain so it was
worth it.  Kidney stone pain--no good payoff there!

I had two lithotripsies to clear my kidney--is your urologist open to doing that?  It really made all
the difference by eliminating the source of the stones,

Good luck--

Oh Lora!  Did you walk under a ladder or step on a crack or something?  Honestly!  You've had more than your share!  Well, I'm sure wishing you well as hard as I can.  Get better and stay well.  I hope you're okay.  Sending good thoughts and wishes your way.

No, no good payoff is right... they wouldn't even let me keep the stone, LOL!

The urologist my PCP sent me to when the first stones appeared didn't want to do anything at all.  He just told me to drink more water and to cut my calcium dose to less than half (even though it is calcium citrate which does not contribute to stone formation).  I had not had any trouble with the stones since then... until this week... (and did not even know there were stones in both kidneys, but they obviously are fairly new since they did not show up on the previous CT a couple of months ago) but I think I need a new urologist.  If there is something they can do to help me avoid having a repeat of this morning, then I want to pursue it.  I do not EVER want to go through that again!

OK, you know the drill:

you are the consumer.  If you don't like the service you are being provided, find another
provider.

Insist on a lithotripsey--it saved me from a recurring problem.  I had an infection stone
which was enormous, so I didn't have your problem, but I did have two major hospital-
izations to deal with the pain.  (As you know, the kidney is not designed as a pressure
vessel!!)

Not being an expert in the causes of kidney stones, I'm hoping that a more committed
urologist will do some more indepth research in how to alleviate your problem.

Best wishes,

Oh Lora, I am glad you are on the mend, but so sorry you had to experience this! I will say a prayer for you and hope your weekend is relaxing and uneventful----snuggle with your furry babies and watch a good movie or 2.

Thinking of you,
Shelly

An excellent weekend plan!  I will have to do some work from home, though, to try to make up some of my missed hours.

I think that kidney stone pain is the worse pain in the world.
I've passed several and once I realize it's a kidney stone I take a cab to the ER & they give me pain meds & lots of fluids.
Once I'm somewhat comfortable I go home, take pain pills & stay up drinking water until they pass.
I'm glad you were able to pass it in the hospital and hopefully you will feel better now.

OMG, I'm so sorry you have had to do that several times!  I will be heading for the ER immediately if if ever even START to feel all those early symptoms again because I went from minor discomfort to blinding pain and numb extremities in only about 30 minutes!

Lora,

OH MY GOODNESS!!!  As I'm reading your post, I feel like I was watching a movie in my mind, imagining what you were going through!   Reading about you driving in that condition reminded me of when I drove to the hospital in the middle of a gallbladder attack in excruciating pain because I didn't want to call an ambulance.  So scary!   I'm so glad you made it through this and passed the stone.  What a week you've had!!!  Continuing to pray for you.  I hope you can get some rest this weekend.

Yes, it was very scary, especially driving that last 2-3 miles on the highway with the dizziness and numb hands on top of the pain (and tears)!  (Not very smart in retrospect, but I just wanted to get to the ER ASAP and I did NOT want to pull over, wait for help to get to me, and then wait for them to get me to the ER... but I suspect you know that mindset.)  I am just glad I trusted my instinct about turning around when I did.  If I had continued down the highway even to the next exit, I would not have ben able to get all the way to the ER myself and would have been forced to pull over on the highway and call 911 and wait for help.
