started process to see another surgeon

Today I filled out the records request to have my RNY surgeon send a copy of my file from August 2007 forward to the top WLS surgeon in our area.  I marked that it was just for a "consult/second opinion" rather than "transferring physicians", so I hope it does not upset my RNY surgeon (I am scheduled to see her in 2 weeks for my 4 year follow-up).

Since she will not help me with this pain -- and since it does not appear that the other surgeon I had used previously is going to do anything other than refer me to OSU or somewhere... and the other WLS surgeon in the same hospital network would not see me at all once he found out who my original surgeon was -- I am out of options.  I know that I am probably more concerned about my original surgeon's feelings than I should be, but... well, it's complicated.  I need someone to help do something about this pain and she won't help so I have to go somewhere else.  Unfortunately, THIS surgeon was my surgeon's mentor and there were a lot of hard feelings when he went off on his own and to another hospital, so it will probably bother her more that it is HIM.

I just hope that her office does not drag their feet getting the records to him because I cannot schedule an appointment with him until he has the records from her.

My belly still hurts today.  Not nearly as much as Sunday-Tuesday, but still enough to require pain meds. Surgeons do exploratory surgery on other people all the time, and although I understand that the mesh from my hernia repair and havign had a tummy tuck make it more complicated surgery, I just still don't understand why it is so hard to get someone to help me feel better.  Why don't I matter enough to help?    Sorry... just feeling very "beaten down" by everything right now.

Hey Lora, I have missed seeing you on here. I have not been on as much either. I am sorry to hear you are feeling so crummy. I know what you mean for the exploratory surgeries. I see so many come thru my
ICU. I hope this new surgeon can and does help. If not Dr Yancy is my surgeon in Chesapeake VA, he is fab. Huggs girl.

Lora,
I wish you the best of luck in getting through this. But, it distresses me a bit to think that you are so concerned about your original surgeon's feelings about your seeing someone else. She has "washed her hands" of this problem by telling you to learn to live with the pain. That is not a valid response from any doctor.

Do not let her possible response get in the way of finding help regardless of how upset you think she may get. Who knows, this new surgeon may find it a challenge to find the issue when his former protege could not ... That may work to your advantage.

Again, good luck

Hang in there Lora...you are your best advocate!  We know our bodies and know when something is wrong!  Took doc's 18 months to find large thyroid mass I told them I had!  They kept telling me I had MS...You have to keep pressing on till you get the answers you need!  Thoughts & Prayers are with you!

Lora,

You need to do what is best for you. Don't worry about what your surgeon thinks and feels. They know that sometimes they are wrong or don't have all the answers.
I hope you find the answer very soon!

I just read about a huge recall from hernia repair mesh...I hope that isn't what is causing your problems.  I think you did the right thing going to a different surgeon.  You are the only one truly looking out for yourself so you "gotta do what you gotta do"...
