I choose the RNY because IMHO it has the data to show long term weight loss and ability to maintain it. Initially I thought the band would be the right procedure, but after researching the process, long term weight loss was minimal, band seemed to have more complications than successes. I only wanted to due the surgery and recovery once. Many banded people are having or investigating revision from the band to another procedure like RNY. The VSG and DS are fairly new as far as being compared to the RNY. Long term data is available on the RNY, not as much data is available for VSG and DS. One procedure being better than another is based on your INDIVIDUAL needs and desires. I compare it to car shopping, the make and model are based on your INDIVIDUAL needs and desires. Final factor is since the cost is so high, I like many others have insurance and not all insurances companies cover every procedure. So we are limited by financial considerations. The only way to make a decision IMHO is to research, educate yourself on all the options, decide you want WLS, then see a surgeon/doctor to help YOU decide what is best for you. Do Not Let anyone make that decision for you. IMHO, you must make it yourself. When you decide, then you own the process, the journey, and the key to your success.
