Is this thrush?

Last night I realized I have this film on my tongue.  I read that thrush is supposed to look like white patches and this is not white.  I'd say it's more like beige.  Maybe off white but not really white.  I can't wipe it off but I can peel it off if I want to scrape my tongue with my fingernail.  It's gross.

My tongue is also really sore, though that might be partly because I scraped a bunch of this icky stuff off it last night.  I have a couple spots inside my mouth besides my tongue that feel sore.

I read that thrush is rare in healthy adults.  Apparently taking antibiotics can throw things off and you can get thrush then but I have not been on any antibiotics in a long time.

If it is thrush, do I have to go to the doctor?  Is there anything I can do myself to get rid of it?  I read that eating yogurt sometimes helps but I eat a ton of yogurt already - I usuall eat about two cups of it a day.

call the dr and speak to nurse. there is a over the counter remedy you can mix up.  I want to say it is listerine, baking soda and something else.  I had thrush years ago and had to do the over the counter remedy because I got it while on vacation.

Thrush can be just on the tongue or on the inside of your mouth.

I got it after surgery and i don't remember it being painful but everything tasted horrible.  I had a script for tablets to dissolve in my mouth 5x a day for 10 days.  Worked.

Definitely sounds like thrush. Equal parts liquid Benadryl and Maalox- swish and swallow (not to exceed a full benadryl dose!!) will help with pain... but you might need an antifungal med to get rid of the overgrowth of yeast. Since you already eat plenty of yougurt, it probably warrants a call to the doctor.

Ask your doctor to prescribe Bactrim that will kill the thrush very quickly. Now they are horse pills but it takes care of it nicely.

When my son was younger, he got thrush a good bit because he was sick ALOT.  My experience is just with him and from what I remember it was extremely painful.  It was almost like blisters inside his mouth.

I had those symptoms of thrush after my gallstone surgery in Oct.  I kinda knew it was going to happen the minute she gave me those intravenous antibiotics.  Then I went home and fell asleep with Werther's in my mouth a few times and wallah...the symptoms of a dry and sore tongue covered with white/beige gunk.

Immediately, I went holistic and soaked my tongue in TWO THINGS throughout the day for two to three days and my tongue was like a baby's again.  I took PLAIN YOGURT and just kept a mouthful on my tongue for as long as I could without swallowing.   Then I would also use Extra Virgin Coconut Oil in the same manner...no swallowing, being sure to keep my tongue immersed in the stuff.  I would swish quite a bit of the EVCO for a while a couple of times a day.

Immediately, the yogurt soothed my aching tongue and the EVCO lubricated it and kept it from being so dry and cracking.  It was gone in a matter of days WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION.

I also read up on Apple Cider Vinegar and remember gargling with it too, but can't remember the details as to how often because the other stuff seemed to make more sense.  But there is something beneficial to the ACV.

Shalom

I would call your surgeon's office just in case. From my experience (with the little preemie kiddos) you can't scrape thrush off... Mayble adults are different, but its pretty unusual either way, so I would call.

There is a drug store remedy called Jenison-Violet that works good, it is just purple and will turn everything in it's path purple. All the other remedies sound worthy too---if you can get the DR to call in something, it would be best. Yeast is nasty and I hate dealing with it! Diflucan tablets are awesome from the Dr.

Good luck, Kelly!
