So What's up with this stuff and can we take it???

Answered my own question after digging on the website!

Is it nutritionally sound? Is it safe? The shake is nutritionally very sound, and based on incredible science. It is based on healthy nutrition, and getting  the daily requirements your body needs to feel healthy. However, those who are pregnant or lactating, gastric  bypass patients, ulcer patients, and anyone known to have a medical condition should consult a physician prior to  taking this product or any nutritional supplement.

I just started the visalus shake mix.  I love it and it does not sit heavy like other protein shakes have.  I had stopped protein shakes because they all made me feel sick. If you check the label everything qualifies for what we can have. I do plan on showing it to my nutritionist when I go back , but I think it's fine.  It's yummy plain or with fruit in it.  I also just bought some of the PB2 that so many people talk about on here and that is really good in the shakes too!  I say enjoy it!! :)   But if you hear of any reason we should not be doing it please let me know!

Not a fan. There are plenty of other good, lower carb shakes on the market. Don't count in them for your vitamins.

I see a ton of people selling them to gastric bypass groups, yet not one can explain the disclaimer for gb patients.

First of all -- just as a general rule for everyone -- don't EVER believe the marketing hype about ANY product.. just because they SAY something is "nutritionally very sound" and "based on incredible science" doesn't mean it is TRUE.   Although this one is not one of them, there are lots of products that claim they are "specially formulated" for bariatric surgery patients that are not particularly good for us (or not good for us AT ALL!).  With this product, I have to wonder why -- if it SO nutritionally sound -- they have the disclaimer about gastric bypass patients.  Very curious.

For those considering it, though, just two observations: The type of protein in the shake mix looks fine, and the carb and sugar levels are acceptable, but 12g of protein is kind of low for 90 calories (most protein shakes will give you 20g for 100 calories).  The vitamin content is also pretty low for something advertised as "providing amazing nutrition". (30% of the USRDA is not much even for non-RNYers, and is almost nothing for us since we need 200%)

I have shown this to my doctor and he says I am good to go with it. Part of the reason he belives it to be a good alternative is because the results showed in my labwork and because I could not find anything else I could tolerate. (about 50 products and 7 months later I found Vi) I have not been using them very long but my almost non existent protein levels are increasing. I had complication after complication from my surgery and somehow my tastes changed. I was once a protein skake junkie prior to surgery but after I got off my TPN I couldn't find anything I could stomach. I am on 4 anti-nausea medications daily and three for ulcers. Do I wi**** had more protein yeah but I wasn't getting hardly any prior to the Vi-Shape. So, if you are like me and cannot stomach other proteins take the literature to your doctor and try it. For me personally it tastes great, no funky after taste, it doesn't make me feel queezy, no stinky protein smell to set off my nausea, and it doesn't feel like it is just sitting in my pouch forever. I love it and drink 2-3 shakes a day and then have a protein rich meal which I always save a small portion (like we can even eat big portions lol) for the following day so that I can have leftover chicken or whatever I made the night before for lunch. In between if I feel hungry I will eat some veggies or some peanut butter.

TMI Disclaimer-prior to starting with the Visalus I would get so constipated and it didn't matter how much water I drank or fiber I added I had to use mineral oil and phillips at least twice a week. Since starting Visalus I have a bowel movement everyday.
