Follow-up with surgeon

Saw the surgeon who did nothing on Monday when I was in the ER.  Long story short (was with him for almost 30 minutes), he said I misunderstood the "plan"... that he only intended to do surgery if the CT with oral contrast showed something (but he really thought it would).  He is not comfortable with going in not knowing what he is looking for, but DOES want to help me find out what is going on.  He is going to talk to my PCP and the doctor who did the EGD this afternoon (the EGD is the only test that was not done at the hospital so is not available online to the surgeon) to see what they can come up with and to get him and my PCP "on the same page".  He is wondering if the problem is related to the remnant stomach (which of course, is blind).   He also said it might be worth trying to get me in at OSU or the Cleveland Clinic so he would make some inquiries.

Not holding my breath.     Belly still hurts (although not as much as yesterday)... more so since he was pressing on it, etc. so I came home for pain meds and will have to log in to work to get my hours in today after I have a nap.

I talked to my boss this morning.  After he talked to HR, he told me that I needed to call our HR person (had leave a msg for her) since I have only one PTO day left right now (and there is no end in sight to the periodic need for days off because of the pain).  Not looking forward to THAT conversation (although my boss was very understanding).

I'm so sorry you're going through this, Lora.  I have no advice or anything.  Just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of and praying for you.  Take care and I hope you get this resolved soon.

It's really too bad that trying to manage healthcare is so stressful, isn't it?  It's hard enough just dealing with the pain, but having to jump all these hurdles and handle the uncertainty as well...???  Hang in there, and I hope you find a resolution soon.

Look into FMLA

FMLA can be taken for intermittent absences -- your doc will just need to document that in the paperwork.

I hope your docs get something figured out to help you!

Lora, even if he can't do anything more, he can give you the best referral as to where to turn next. Take good care!

I'm glad he is going to help you and maybe you will be getting some relief very soon.

As far as time off from work, if you company has 75 or more employees, they have to offer FMLA.  Inquire about that.  That's what I do every day!

Good luck.
