Ok, y'all might burn me at the stake for doing this but...

Y'all are grown and can make your own decisions. I used to be very gun shy about putting foods that COULD be trigger foods on Bariatric Foodie. Then someone pointed out something very important to me: ANY food can be a trigger to any one and if I went on that philosophy I might as well close up shop!

So getting back to the controversy of today's post. Ice cream. Do you eat it? Many of you eat protein ice cream. But sometimes we want plain old ice cream. Now we can each judge for ourselves if that's a good idea or not. For me, sweets usually fall to the bottom of the totem pole to meat. Your mileage may vary.

BOTTOM LINE: there are good options out there and a SERVING of certain brands can fit nicely into a balanced diet.

All that is to say, if you don't eat ice cream, I am happy for you. Keep doing you. If you do and want a good chioce, check out today's Bariatric Foodie review!

I do a few ounces of SF Frozen yogurt  a couple times a week.  I typically have the calories to spare and it isn't like I won't burn them off in the next day or so.

See, calories with a purpose inspires me.

I have a good friend who is post op who loves to eat. His rule for himself: whatever I eat I have to burn. And he does. And he eats what he wants. And he's under goal and has maintained two years.

So calories in, calories out works...most of the time.

MacDonald's small cone is WONDERFUL and only about a dollar.  It contains 150 calories and you can enjoy it and go home and not have the rest of the carton calling you into the kitchen.  Just be careful with the sundaes - they have a lot of calories because of the added cookies and such.  Janice

A small cone has 17g of sugar though. That's way too much for me. I'd dump.

Like I said, for folks who don't keep ice cream in their houses, I can respect that. For me, salty always wins over sweet. For example, I bought that ice cream a few days ago and tried it the same night to write the review. Haven't touched it since. I keep meaning to but I have steak in the fridge and usually about a one ounce piece of that is my midnight snack.

Yum.

This is a good one if you like regular frozen dessert that you can make at home. I make this quite often. The mix is actually for commercial ice cream makers but Shari (Jupiter6) showed me how to adjust the amounts for my home ice cream maker.

The stats are crazy on that stuff. It's called "Carbothin 4"

It's something like 35 cals/half cup. I add just a bit more cocoa powder to my chocolate and I'm good to go.

Given that I'm allergic to mil**** cream isn't in my diet unless I want a really good purging...which is MAYBE once every three years!

My Dad, who is diabetic, enjoys his no-sugar added ice cream with peanut butter to bring his sugars into balance when they start to go low. Since he has Stage IV pancreatic cancer, his sugars tend to be highly variable even when he eats the exact same foods at the exact same time on different days.

For those who enjoy ice cream -- enjoy!

Temptation will always be there and we each must handle our own deamons.  There is no predicting what will set someone off on a binge or a nibble more than they should have.  Even the healthiest of foods are triggers for someone.

Here or anywhere else, no food option should be completely taboo.  Even a ridiculous 350 cal, high sugar, high fat, mini sized desert at some chain restaurants has its place.  Just not for everyone.

Any way you slice it there will always be exposure to foods we need to avoid.  Part of loosing and maitaining is learning to deal with it.    Closing a post or clicking another link to avoid temptation is no big deal.
