Diet Coke was my drug of choice
It tastes different to me post-op too. I didn't even try it until I was about 9 months out.
But, having said that,I have to admit that I am back to drinking it daily. It's usually just a bottle or possible two now, as opposed to the 6 or 8 per day I was drinking pre-op so I'm okay with it. My surgeon isn't thrilled as it's not an ideal post-op drink, but we live in reality not some make believe world where everything happens perfectly according to plan and fortunately for me he recognizes that.
If you're TRULY against drinking soda post op, I would listen to what the PP said and not even try it. I never intended to remain complete DC-free, I just wanted to wait several months until I was sure my newly adjusted innards were okay and I was firmly grounded in the pouch rules before I tried it.
I'm an "all things in moderation" type gal and that works best for me. If I tell myself I can NEVER, EVER have something again I immediately feel deprived, which is part of the diet mentality I have worked so hard to let go of.
To each their own - good luck to all of you in your individual journeys=)

I would have Diet Coke from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed. I spent so much money on Diet Coke and was for sure addicted. Even if I can go back I will not I noticed how I feel when I'm not on it I feel great with out it. It really was also a drug for me. Just got back from the show everyone having coke I had my water and I feel great they are all grouchy and diet from the huge caffeine drop.
Hello. My name is Julie and I am a diet caffeine free coke addict. It's been three days since my last drink. lol This is harder that I thought it would be. Glad I decided to quit it now rather than after my surgery!!! I know that i will never touch it again. Anything this hard to stop has WAAAAY too much control over my life.
Guess we'll just have to go to shooting up heroin. JUST KIDDING!!!!!
