Do I look like I've gained?

See, I would never, ever ask someone if they were pregnant.  What if they weren't?  And even if they are, how is it my business?  If it's someone that I should know about, like my sister, they will tell me when I need to know.

Me either. It's definitely something really personal, even if they are super obvious! Maybe I should be childish and start giving people the finger, at least it will make me giggle. LOL

Before WLS, I got asked that every single day. When are you due? Ugh!!!! I finally got the nerve up to just be a smarta$$. I'd just tell them I wasn't pregnant, I was fat and I'm due to teach people not to be so rude. Granted, I guess I was happy I looked pregnant and not fat. Baby bumps are cuter than fat in my mind.

I've been asked 3 times if I'm pregnant or when I'm due. I've responded in various ways - thanking them for pointing out that I'm overweight, simply saying no, just heavy but my favorite is - No,  are you?

Sounds like your attitude is positive - that's great.

Cultural differences are HUGE.  I went to grad school at Notre Dame (as a full time working adult) in the summer with many international students who flew in for summer classes.  I learned so much about how "Americans" are so different in our lifestyle. (I've always been a country girl- Hoosier - so typical midwestern farm type).

So many physicians are foreign and it can be a challenge relating to them.

Other than that people say the rudest and stupidist things.  I am very self confident and aware of my worth and value - so I can usually just laugh it off.  Hope you don't let this concern you.

I would watch the scale so you can make decisons about the medicine.  Don't let it be a "self-fulfilling prophesy" and eat improperly thinking "oh well if I'm gonna gain weight anyway!"  I really know you won't, but others read these posts too.

take care

Eh, I'm over it already.  I was just annoyed when I left his office.  I certainly won't use it as an excuse to eat stuff I shouldn't eat.

Quitting Effexor cold turkey??? I did that once, and do not recommend it.  I was a basket case for weeks.  My oncologist didn't hear about it until it was all over and couldn't believe I did that.  If an oncologist knows about withdrawal, I can't believe a psychiatrist wouldn't!  Wow.  Glad you have such a great attitude about it all. Just goes to show there's ignorance in all walks of life, and we just have to learn to roll with it.

Yeah, I do think it's patriarchal, especially with the stuff about children. I'm glad you're over it. Not worth being annoyed by someone who can only find worth not in one's self but in relation (wife, mother) to others. Glad you have a therapist that works with YOU.

Yeah, I'm kinda thinking that if he's this removed from where you are as a person... he may not be the best person to talk to as a therapist.

He's just the doc that  prescribes my meds.  He's not my therapist.  I would not see him for therapy.  But I live in a small town and there are only three psychiatrists that take my insurance here and he is the best of the three.  I've met the other two.  They were such idiots.  Well, one was worse than idiotic, I only saw him one time and ended up filing a complaint with the state medical board and they were investigating him but I don't know what all happened with that because they don't make that info public.

Anyway, my other choices were to ask my PCP to prescribe my psych meds, which I would do if my depression were more stable and I was not likely to need lots of adjustment to my meds, but since I do need things adjusted, I'm not even sure if my PCP would be comfortable treating me for that and I feel like I need someone more knowledgable about psych meds.  Or I could drive to another town to see a psychiatrist that takes my insurance, but I just don't want to do that.  Too inconvenient.

I have a good therapist, though.
