Surgery wars just make me tired.
I don't think when people speak about surgeries they shouldn't use generalizations. I would approach is like this......I chose RNY because and I didn't feel like VSG, Lapband, etc...... was for me because of XYZ reasons.......The journey is going to be different for everyone and our successes cannot be measured all the same way......Therefore, everyone should seek the best option for themselves......which is part of the journey

I know what you mean by surgery wars. I chose mine because it was the one I felt best about- I didn't chose the others because well didn't feel good about those and to be honest don't have enough long term research out there......
People will always try to push their ideas on people it happens every where not just here. If you get frustrated with them just stay out of them or have a good laugh at how high schoolish adults can actually be.

It has the potential, reading all the surgery war posts, to make one doubt themselves and the decisions we have made, even if we have been tremendously successful and that can be harmful to our progress. A few months ago, I had myself convinced that I should have had the DS and that my RNY was somehow going to turn on me and I would have tremendous complications that would ultimately lead to failure. Then I sat myself down and did a little research. I laid out all the pros and cons--availability, insurance, BMI, co-morbitities, etc. and came back to the fact that I made the best choice for me, at the time and given my personal cir****tances. Long term is unknown but long term RNY is much more acceptable and a lot less frightening than long term morbid obesity. I am happy with it all and hopefully I will take care of myself well enough to utilize this tool to the max. Plus, it's not like I can un-ring that bell! So long story short, if I open a topic and I see that a surgery war is brewing, I hit the back button and come to the comfort of my RNY forum.
I can undertand a "pro xxxx surgery" if you're on the xxxx forum. But to go onto another surgery specific forum and post your biased views on another type of surgery is another issue that is troublesome to many. I had RNY surgery and view only the RNY, Main, and CA forum, as that's where I live. The final decision should be between the pateint and the surgeon. The patient should inform themselves as much as possible ahead of time, so they can ask appropriate questions. DAVE
