Losing Too Much??
Wow! Thank you all for responding! Im sorry I forgot to mention how tall I am. Im 5'7. As I look at my family,I am now built like my dad & his mom & a few of my brothers. I just have never been this thin & its all kind of "new" for all of us. I was actually happy at 140. I keep telling everyone my body is in control, which I think it is I eat ok so Im not "trying" to lose anything more.In my opinion I am to skinny but if this is what my body was supposed to look like all along without all of the Little Debbie cakes & Coca Colas, then thats that.
The sad thing is,is now I get "youre to skinny" now instead of "you need to lose some weight" from my family at family reunions. Crazy how you think all these things are going to resolve themselves if youd just lose the weight, and they just dont. now I STILL dont feel comfortable in a bathing suit, unfortunatly I think Im to skinny to wear one...weird I know,lol...Also I am always extremly cold I live in Fl. and take a sweater with me anywhere I go b/c I am always so cold.

At 5'7 and 119 your BMI is 18.6 so just barely inside the Normal range (anything under 18.5 is considered "underweight"). So yes you just might be skinnier than you should be. That being said it's pretty hard to try and gain weight at this point although you could still have some bounce back. Are you getting in enough protein each day? If your not you could be losing (or have lost) a lot of muscle instead of just fat. Add in some calories if you want to actually gain some weight. Bread, pasta, etc. can add in some carbs as well jus****ch portions and how often you eat them. Have you had your labs recentely? Iron deficitency can cause you to be cold all the time, but it's also not uncommon for us to be cold post surgery. Still taking all your vitamins like your supposed to? Have you tracked your food at all lately? Do you know what you average daily for protein?carbs? fats? sugar? etc.

I hate "tracking" all that stuff but will try to make an effort :) Thanks again !
Yep, taking those vits can be a pain! However, If your not getting in your calcium etc than you could be losing bone density as well. Do you have any idea of what you are getting in protein wise each day? I know I try and get at least 85g (and those are normally my "bad days") but try and average around 95-110g per day. Upping your protein will help keep and develope your muscles (remember if your losing muscle, you could be losing heart function as well, becasue well, your heart IS one of your muscles.) You said you were happier around 140, which with your height is a pretty good number and puts you pretty solidly into the normal range. I would add (if you don't already) a little more carbs and fats into your diet. 2% milk if you normally drink skim. full fat cheeses if you normally eat low fat, maybe add in some nuts (peanut butter?) which are still good for you but give you a little more fat intake. Are you eating only your main meals? or do you try and get in snacks as well? On a good day when I'm trying to get all my protein in that I should (100g or so) I eat about every 3 hours or so. Add some vanilla protein powder into your morning coffee? As for tracking, you don't have to do it ALL the time, but it would be a good idea for a week every month or so to see where you "stand" food wise. heck even a couple of days a month give you at least some insight to what your doing food wise. Also yes, you can add muscle back with more exercise. That doesn't mean you have to go out and get a gym membership (I'm not a huge gym fan, so I do try and avoid it as much as possible. lol) Find stuff you enjoy doing and do it. Hiking? Swimming? Kayaking? Kite flying? bike riding? tennis? volleyball? softball? Etc. Lots of activities can help build up those muscles. small hand held weights at home can do wonders as well.
