Post op sleeping STINKS!

I had insomnia pre-op but this is ridiculous.  Even when I'm tired I can't seem to get comfortable.  I'm getting grouchy from lack of sleep and this is getting old (yeah, I realize it's only been a few days).  I just want so bad to lay on my left side.. but if I try and lay down at all, it feels like my stomach is being pulled down.  It's kinda a nasty feeling.

I feel horrible for the pre-op stomach sleepers!!

Thank God I got a recliner the day I got home from the hospital.... if we hadn't of done that, I'd be getting no sleep at all.

Ok, vent is over....... thank you.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Pillows. Use them everywhere you need support. My favorites are the throw pillows from my sofa with a pillowcase on them. It will be better soon.

I feel for you. I was so frustrated with trying to sleep I wanted to cry. Hang in there - two weeks out and I'm sleeping pretty normally.

I've always fought insomnia, but since surgery it has gotten worse. Mainly because now that I can feel my hips and knees and other bony parts, I can't get comfortable enough to fall asleep at night unless I am absolutely exhausted. I'm seriously considering asking my MD about getting an Rx for something when I get like this.

It does get easier. I slept for 3 weeks on my recliner and then tried my bed. Im a belly down sleeper so I had a hard time it took me almost 4 weeks to sleep on my stomach but I would position pillows under on of my legs to prevent that pulling feeling you are mentioning and some other pillows on my side to try to elevate some of the weight from my stomach. Just be patient and work with them pillows and trust me it will work out just have someone help you position the pillows for you while you get comfortable and with time it will be back to normal. but i completely feel for you, most of us have gone thru this. Goodluck and hope you have a speedy recovery

Initially I had no problems sleeping in the bed when I came home.  However, after I healed I developed insomnia.  It finally resolved so just be patient.  If things get worse you can always ask the doctor for a sleep aid (for a limited time only).

I'm not stranger to Insomnia... pre-op I would use it to my advantage and clean my house in the "wee hours".... but post op is a bit harder since I can't really do any lifting or whatever for awhile and to be honest, I don't FEEL like cleaning.

Luckily I took 5 weeks off work because since surgery sleep is lacking.

I wasnt able to sleep in my bed no matter how many pillows I used until post op day 14. So the last 2 days I finally was able to sleep in bed but Only for about 4 hours then I am wide awake...

Thats why I am posting this at 3am my time!
