This hair loss is sucking! I clean my drains out twice before the end of my shower! My mom keeps telling me to get my hair cut short to make it less visible. I think she and Kelly are right. Have a hair appt this week.

Yeah..... me too! I didn't think it'd happen to me since I've been really good with protein since week 1 but I'm having to vaccuum several times a week to get up all my hair. Wish I could blame it on the cats, but nope, it's all my hair. And I already started with thin hair so really don't need to look like Mrs. Clean..... Wish I could cut it short but I'm gonna be in a wedding in September and I'm afraid the brides will freak out if I just up and cut my hair short. Gonna look into that Nioxin stuff others were talking about....

The impression that I get is that the hair loss is temporary and also that there is not much you can do about it. Also it varies a lot from person to person. I haven't had any so far, but it's not over till it's over, if you know what I mean. I take Biotin and try to keep the protein up, but I think it's more heredity than anything else.

I'm so nervous about any hair loss I may have.  I had neuro surgery 3 yrs ago so I have a  big  scar about 4inches back from my hairline  on the top of my head that runs horozontal with my hairline.  I keep bangs to change the way the hair lays and moves on top so that I can hide the scar.  If my hair thins out too much I'm going to be in trouble.

I'm 11 weeks out and for the last couple of weeks, I've noticed more hair in the shower drain than usual and I'm concerned.  My hairdresser told me not to worry, I have a very thick head of hair and it wouldn't make a difference-LOL!

But I am worried and does anyone know how long it lasts?  I know every one is different, but I'm just curious.

Hello...I've been posting on everyone's hair questions lol & I will say the same thing to you! I'm a licensed cosmetologist & I reccommend Nioxin products. They work wonders! Boitin helps your hair become stronger but does not make it grow back. Nioxin stimulates the blood flow in your scalp to make the hair you have lost grow back in. Make sure you are getting enough protien because if you aren't, you hair is the 1st place your body will take it from. & as long as you are taking your Bcomplex vitamins, you should be getting enough Biotin & don't need a supplement! ;o)

I've not had surgery yet but I was told to start the nioxin so you can get it at Sally's it called Nutri-ox the same as the name brand and it's  not high like the nioxin and  I was told to massage my head everyday  hope this helps because it freaks me out think about losing my hair .

Kattie,

That's probably the most traumatic part of early post op. I hope it grows back soon too. You are doing a great job of increasing your intake and whatnot so I think your body will catch on and it will stop soon!

If it helps any, you can refer to the picture of my baldness on my OH profile. That was not caused by WLS, but by alopecia areata. I am totally fine with you looking at that picture and sending up thanks to God because, after all, your hair will grow back. Mine won't. So if it helps in any way to say "at least my scalp isn't as effed up as Nik's!" feel free.

Hugs and pretend Hershey kisses,

Nik

Thanks for everyones responses! I am going to look for nioxin and start taking biotin. Hopefully it will help the hair grow back full and nice.
